Democracy Returns to Iraq..or NOT: Shocking SMH article
by Sanjay
Fri Jul 16th, 2004 at 10:22:45 EDT

A shocking piece in the Sydney Morning Herald:
http://smh.com.au/articles/2004/07/16/1089694568757.html?oneclick=true

"Interim PM Allawi apparently thinks he is the new dictator of Iraq. While casually walking through a prison courtyard where there were several insurgents lined up against the wall, he announced that he would like to kill them all, and then proceeded to draw a pistol and execute the men on the spot. Several American soldiers/security guards witnessed the incident."
****

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Iraq is like the hotel in "The Shining."

As with all bad news coming out of Iraq, I hope this is not true.

1. ouch
Great choice for PM. I'm sure a lot of Freepers will appreciate the cowboy style of justice, though.

6. Dubya will probably be thinking.......

"I sure wish I could handle the Dems like that. Just line them up against a wall and shoot their traitorous, anti-Christian asses. Oh well, maybe after the November Diebold sponsored elections that'll be #1 on my To Do list."

2. I saw this subject already on DU. But we hired him because he was
a torturer, eliminator, guerrilla member that killed Iraqis during Saddam, and...tatatata CIA agent...and member of the Chalabi family.

We don't give a hoot that he kills Iraqis... he is our front now: It is the Iraqis doing the killing now, they are a free country.

4. LA81: I can't find that thread.
For some reason, despite the fact that I donated two days ago, I can't use the "search" function. Could you give me the link?

15. Dictatorship by Proxy? Remember bush's comment about being a dictator -
'If this were a dictatorship, it'd be
a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator.'

He's calling the shots through Allawi and getting to act out his fantasy of being the dictator.

I'd love to hear what Justin Frank (wrote Bush on the Couch) says about this.

9. Absolutely Cheneying brilliant
So, how long before we have to dislodge this homicidal maniac from Iraq? Five years? Ten? Will it similarly cost hundreds of billions of dollars and tens of thousands of lives? Or will inflation make that a trillion dollars and millions of lives?

Please come quickly, November elections.

12. Walt, who said, "If supporting dictators keeps the free world free, then
we'll support them!"
It was in an industrial band's song in the 90's, but I don't remember who actually said it.

13. But as that famous quote goes

"He might be a mean son of a *****, but he's our son of a *****" (or something to that effect). As long as Allawi recognizes that he is only the frontman for his boss living in the big new US embassy building, everything will remain copasetic.

14. If anyone is interested in how this story turns out
please pull out your history books and review the history of Iran, pre-Shah, and post-Shah. Simple people learn nothing from history because it is not relevant to them.
