Two Women who need to speak at the DNC |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 11:18 AM by Malikshah
1) Whoopi Goldberg 2) Corinne Brown
If they plan it correctly, they can come on stage a al Hannibal Lecter surrounded by armed guards from the regime
Then they can calmly and clearly state that the regime will no longer be able to silence African-American women.
They won't need to swear, yell, scream what-have-you-- but clearly and cogenly show how the current regime is silencing its citizens.
Just a thought.
It will take back the message--it will be a stand against the pathetic attempts by the regime to silence dissent.

Is there an overriding reason for these two women as opposed to any other two women with an important message?

6. It is an issue of symbols |
|
Sorry to be crass but you need to ram it home to the regime that each of these women has been maligned.
Now, we could easily add to the list
Dixie Chicks, etc.

11. Sorry, but one word questions are useless |
|
My post explains the issue quite clearly.
Should folks not wish to see the reasoning, that is up to them.
Now, if folks wish to have every single person who has been maligned and adversely affected by the actions of this regime stand up and speak at the DNC, then by all means. Of course, the Convention will last for the next, say 100 years, as we get folks from around the the country and their children and grandchildren to speak up.
But, please, go ahead and muddy the waters.

12. I think there would be far more effective... |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 02:15 PM by DarkPhenyx
...and less "hamstrung", speakers we could choose. If you really must make them black women fine. How about a black female teacher who can talk about the absolute failure of NCLB. Or prehaps a black female doctor who can discuss the joke that is Bush's health care policy. Maybe a black female Army officer. How about a successful black female business woman who has lost her job thanks to Bush's economy nad has been out of work for over a year.
We have much better choices than a partisan politician, and a recently chastised comedian with an ax to grind. People who would be much harder for the opposition to attack.
I understand that you can't answer the "why" question. There was no real basis for your original premis other than a knee jerk reaction. You are forgiven.

13. "hamstrung" --well see, that's the problem |
|
As long as folks play to the tune of the regime, they will always be hamstrung.
As long as folks cringe when called liberal or progressive As long as folks avoid those who have been pilloried by the regime As long as folks accept the insults of "Get over it" and "Stop whining" As long as folks bare their throats
There are those of us who are not dancing to those tunes. Those that due, will have to pay the piper.

Nice rhetoric, but not very useful for this subject. Who do you think the undecided voters, the people we need to win over if we are going to pull this off, are going to listen to?

However, I would be CERTAIN to tune in for that!
Actually, there are oodles of articulate types, male and female, who are On Our Side. The problem is having room for all of them.
And part of me wishes Barbara Jordan could phone in a speech from heaven. Wouldn't that be just the right touch?

We have plenty of speakers, thank you, and don't need any more 'flavor of the week' ones.

For the DNC?
I would not equate someone who has raised an important issue of the disenfranchising of US citizens as flavor of the week; nor would I view someone who was "dixie-chicked" as flavor of the week.
The problem is that too much has already been swept under the rug. Should the DNC toe the line drawn by the other party, they will simply be perpetuating the system that helped bring America down the path of destruction.
The RNC "falls in line" and controls the message in the US today. It is high time that the DNC add their message, the message of the majority of US citizens to the mix.
My suggestion to have them speak does not mean that they should monopolize and evening or the like. Their actions and those done against them, however, should be made public during the convention--it is part of the larger isses that threaten our country.
