Coming out of the Closet? (I've seen 5 Dem cars in 4 days in Dallas) |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 11:55 AM by elfwitch
In the last 4 days driving around the Park cities are of Dallas (read heavy Repub stronghold) I have seen 5 cars with Texas Democrat and Texans for Kerry stickers on them.
This makes me wonder... A. Do Dallas Dems feel more comfortable outing themselves not the tide is turning?
-OR-
B. Is even Repug central (read: Dallas) getting fed up?
What are your thoughts? And what is it like where you are living if you are not in Dallas...

1. More sightings here in Houston too... |
|
The tide has turned for at least one guy. His sticker: "I voted for Bush in 2000. My bad." (He also had a "Dissent is Patriotic" sticker.)

2. You think it is a turning tide? |
|
You think people are actually having a change of heart? I suppose that is possible.

3. I really think it's more of a "coming out" thing... |
|
...closet Dems are less intimidated than they were in 2002.
You know GOP + Texan = stubborn and/or delusional. They'll never admit to a mistake (except the guy I referred to above)

I think that not only is the tide turning (Mayor Laura Miller?), liberals (and Democrats too!) are feeling safer about exposing their true colors.
The sad thing is reich-wingers want to portray liberals' reluctance to show their liberal pride as shame... it was never shame, it was fear of their jackbooted car-scratching, car-denting, convertible-roof cutting (yes this happened to me) ways.

When I first started to put stickers on my Van in 2000, hubby was worried what people would do to me or the van. SERIOUSLY! He had heard what had happened to others autos for sporting their views.
I did it any way. But I live in Florida. When I went to vist Arkansas, I was warned that I shouldn't show my stickers. I did it anyway.
People were WARNED or told that their autos would be damaged. They had "heard" it had happened to "others."
In some areas, it really is a brave thing to do. Some people feel RIGHT by doing damage to autos carring stickers that do not represent their views.
But as to Texas, Texas is still giving major $$$ from the rich to the repugs. But the smaller donations are going to the Democrats in larger numbers. I don't know what it was like in 2000, but to me that means Texas Democrats are willing to donate to the cause, even if their state can not be carried this election time. If the vote is high for the Democrats, even IF they loose, it will give the heart and a message that IT CAN BE DONE! If there is hope, there is a will, there is a way.
