How should Kerry tap Dean/Clark/Nader/Kucinich/Sharpton/Cobb/etc? |
|
Those names are not limiting. I'm sure you have some interesting proposals, so let's hear 'em!!
How should the cabinet positions breakdown?
How does Dean fit in with two ex-rivals, Kerry and Edwards?
What about either Clintons? Would Bill become an adviser, or Hillary a cabinet member?
Should the currently elected stay in position?
Should Nader or Cobb be included in the cabinet or as advisor's? (No Flaming please)
Who fills the important positions like Sec. of Def., Sec. of State, etc?
Will up and coming stars be brought in to be groomed for future presidency (Obama, Bayh, etc.)
Should "star power" be tapped to counter republicans like Arnold or Ditka?

21. I think party is less important than being a progressive. |
|
I'd rather put Cobb in a cabinet position than Lieberman or Miller.

13. he needs to make Wesley Clark Secretary of State |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 03:57 PM by ima_sinnic
he (Kerry) already missed a big-time opportunity to present a 1000% better scenario for gracefully changing the course of the Iraq invasion by tapping Wesley for VP. He (Wesley) as Secy of State would go a long way toward healing the rift in international relations incurred by our present non-leader.

10. If I may propose a refinement: |
|
the tap on the back of Nader's head should be delivered with a 2x4 at extreme force.
That was a metaphor for a decisive electoral victory, I don't suppose I need to add. }(

OK, I'll play nice: Nader should not be tapped at all since he's made it abundantly clear that he's at cross purposes with the Democratic party. Now I'll be the first to complain that the party is in dire need of reconstruction, but that needs to be done by getting the DNC to throw the left a bone once in awhile so as to give people like me a better reason to support the party, not by launching a personality-cult candidacy in an attempt to draw the left out of the party altogether.
I would very much like to see Dennis Kucinich running Health & Human services, but then again I wanted him to be the nominee, so dream on, I guess. He may also have shot himself in the foot by staying in a quixotic race for so long. What some see as dedication, others see as either laughable or divisive. He may have screwed himself out of the national influence he sought. But keep an eye out for the Congresswoman of the district bordering his, Stephanie Tubbs-Jones - she's poised to become a national player, and could very possibly find a home in a Kerry administration.
Wes Clark would make a spectacular Secretary of State, especially given the Iraq crisis a Kerry administration would inherit.
Gephardt's a gimme for Labor.
Dean is unlikely to be tapped, and that's as it should be. He's proven himself a leader in national organizing and fundraising, and he should do that rather than be in government. Such people can still have a strong policy influence, and he'd be a wondrous help in moving the party back to the left some. Ditto Sharpton on all of that. He's too contentious a figure to be effective in government (the Tawana Brawley matter would come back to bite him on the ass in a nanosecond if he were in government), but in the grassroots? HELL yeah!
Hillary Clinton should stay in the Senate - we need Dem senators, and I'd hate to see her seat go to a Repuke.
I would be unsurprised to see Bill Clinton offered an advisory position or U.N. Ambassadorship, and equally unsurprised to see him turn it down. The Clintons are a lightning-rod for wingnuts, and they know it. Their presence could hurt more than it helps.
SecDef is a tough call for me because I don't know much about prominent policy Dems' military experience. It's my understanding that a SecDef has to have been a civillian for at least 10 years.
There, I played nice.
Edit: Spelling

I could very well see him being the first AA VP or President. Bayh, I think his ship has sailed. Nader or Cobb in cabinet? No, Nader actually is more qualified (Dept of Transportation!!) but he has burned too many bridges and Cobb I think would be interested in building the Green Party.
Clinton's--Bill could, but Hillary I think remains Senator from NY unless she is defeated.
Dean--lots of potential. HHS Secretary, DNC Chairman.
Defense? Sam Nunn, maybe.
I like Al Gore for Secretary of State.
Star power? I think that Martin Sheen would be a brilliant candidate if he would ever run or even Rob Reiner.

9. Nader, not a chance. Cobb? Sure! |
|
He'd be wonderful in any number of posts to do with human services, transportation, energy, the environment.
I'd be strongly against tapping movie/pop stars to be anything but goodwill ambassadors or to lend cachet to fact finding missions. After all, we're not the party that likes our leaders incompetent and completely out of their depth in jobs that take completely different backgrounds to do well.
As for Clinton, he would be a shoe in to fill the position Carter managed so beautifully for many years, that of honest broker/peacemaker. Carter's getting on in years, and could use some help out there.
Hillary Clinton should stay where she is. We're going to need all the Democrats in the Senate we can get, and we're set to lose two of them to the White House.

|
haha just kidding!
Dean would be a good Secretary of HHS or DNC chair. Sharpton is a tool but maybe we could use him as press secretary. Cobb for EPA. Gep for labor. Clark as NSA. Graham or Breux for Defense. Bill Clinton or Al Gore for State. Hillary can stay in NY. max Cleland for Veterans Affairs.
And the ONLY man for Attorney General is NY's Eliot Spitzer. We need to let KerryEdwards know that.
Ralph Nader can be the official GOP-backed douche-bag of the year.
