This is how the Neocons will try to fix decision 2004
They won't try to stop the election. But they will try to stop people from voting. Well, not all people, just African Americans in large cities in swing states.

There will be a terra' warning in early November, a "threat" using chemical weapons. For "safety sakes", martial law will be imposed in inner city areas. You know, like West Philadelphia, Liberty City, Cleveland, places like that. Oddly enough, better neighborhoods like Society Hill will have enough police protection to "allow" voting to continue.

Polling places will be closed, but fear not, the inner city hordes will be allowed to vote---- in suburban towns, away from bus lines that serve the inner city. Of course, there will be lots of confusion, and nobody will be told which polling place is theirs, but it will always be "another one".

The Wednesday after the election, the warning level will go down, and we'll hear the "liberal media" say about how the African American community was allowed to vote, they were just too ignorant to find their polling place.

It's worked before, it can work again.

1. My thought: Late October Surprise is a FOILED mass attack...
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 05:18 PM by Richardo
The chatter will ratchet up, and the threat level will be raised, until Ashcroft and Ridge come on the air and tell us how they foiled 'em thanks to the Patriot Act. :eyes:

Bush kept us safe, Dems are nay-saying traitors. Y'all go vote now, and do the right thing, hear?

2. And what's really depressing is how easily
so many people seem to be fooled by this kind of shit. I suppose by now nothing should surprise me when it comes to people, but I just can't believe they can't see how manipulative and transparent it is, just like the "we may have to postpone the election" bullshit. NEVER EVER in our history, even in the darkest moments such as at the height of the Civil War, or even during two World Wars and a Great Depression, have we EVER postponed or cancelled elections and it blows my mind that people just can't see how manipulative, transparent, and frighteningly Orwellian that really is. And if it were a DEM who were saying it (say, Clinton), the "liberal" media and the repukes and their ilk would have stirred up a shitstorm the likes of which we never would have seen before.

4. Mike Lukovich this morning on NPR described a cartoon he drew...
With Bush sitting behind his desk with the sign "The only thing we have is fear."

Telling.

5. God help you if anything "real" happens in late October
Nobody will believe it. Well, at least 51% won't, anyways.

6. I know, I wouldn't post though
If I think Rove hadn't thought about it first. If this happens, I'm motoring down to Philadelphia and I'll drive people to the polls even if I have to drive through police barricades to do it.

8. That's similar to the way it went down in Chicago in 2000 and 2002.
In 2000 and 2002, many polling places in Chicago didn't display any kind markings; if you had not known where you were supposed to go, there was virtually no way to find out at the last minutes.

9. A biological threat...
so they could "quarantine" us all into our houses....
Then expel any foreign journalists in the interest of national security...The borders would be closed, of course...
Then they would start handing out vaccine shots with which they could create a nationwide DNA database....
Somewhere in here, Smirky is declared the winner by Diebold...
Meanwhile we are under Martial Law.....
The possibilities are endless!

10. My take is the Neocons are evil but they don't control all of the party
At the core of the Pentagon (civilians) is were you find the Neocons. They are driving the goal of world imperialism and damn anyone who tries to stop them. They include Wolfowitz, Skooter Libby, etc. see here for more - www.csmonitor.com/specials/neocon/index.html
Theres an interesting article in the July issue of The American Prospect by Danny Postel on how the Republican Party/Bush State Department is at war with Neocons because of the mess they got us in in Iraq. You can read a short lead to this story at www.prospect.org We can only hope they will finally self-destruct but don't count on it.

The voting crap that the Republicans are pulling is has Karl Rove's name all over it. It's the same type of stuff he pulled with John McCain and in Texas when Bush was running for Governor. Then you have all the "Right Wing Think Tanks". Take none of them lightly, to do so, we will lose - America will lose.

13. IMO this is possible but unlikely. The GOP wants to be WAY more subtle than ...
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 09:33 PM by AirAmFan
... this.

Karl Rove and Republican operatives around the country have at least FOUR strategies for ensuring "re-"election that won't leave so much embarrassing evidence behind.

(1) They're beating the drum for "Defense of Marriage" and helping toss-up states put gay marriage referenda on the ballot. Rabid right-wingers who haven't voted since Reagan will flock to the polls for the referenda and in addition to vote for The Smirk and The Sneer.

(2) Dubya's campaign is pressuring ministers and priests to give them names, addresses, and phone numbers of every church member. Unless they somehow find out a church member is a Democrat, everyone on the big list will get a customized personal advertising campaign to ensure they actually make it to the polls. Ministers and priests who don't play ball risk having federal funds for their "faith-based" charitable efforts cut off.

(3) John Ashcroft and DeForest Soaries will get Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge to hype "Election Day Terra". More disproportionately urban Kerry/Edwards voters are likely to to be scared into staying home on Election Day than disproportionately suburban and rural Bush/Cheney voters.

(4) To mop up excess Democratic voters in swing states, Homeland Security will deploy especially thorough teams to the polls in urban areas. Lines to vote will stretch to two or three hours long and a few percent of people whose schedules are not flexible (disproportionately Democrats) will choose to leave without having voted.

(5) Only after all these more subtle strategies have been deployed and Rove knows the likely electoral vote total, around 4 pm California time, will he decide whether the heavy-handed tactics you describe are needed in Western swing states. Most likely, more subtle tactics will have swung a few key states to the GOP by close margins, and Rove won't find it necessary to order outright fascism.

But the GOP will do ANYTHING to "win". If all else has failed, California can become the site of even more heavy-handed tactics than were needed in Florida last time. See http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x1999327

14. Someone Needs To Let Democrats Know
Your boss CANNOT FIRE YOU no matter HOW late you are because you were voting!!
They HAVE TO...BY FEDERAL LAW...allow you time off to vote!

and they cannot take any retributive action against an employee for voting!

15. Wayne Madsden thinks there'll be no

election postponement but there will be terror alerts (RED alerts yet) on the West Coast late on election day, designed to make working people grab their kids from school or daycare and go home, skipping the polls entirely.

Madsden thinks they'll then say "Well, you Dems didn't want to postpone the elections, so you can't complain about people not voting."

He thinks they'll only do this if they know they'll lose w/o CA (and perhaps WA.)

Wish I remembered who posted about the article here this morning so I could credit them, but here's the link, courtesy of that DUer:
