The Olympics are exactly one month away - but the games
are anything but fun for the workers producing the
athletic gear and uniforms the athletes will wear in August.
Ironically, the official promotional theme of this
August's Games is "Celebrate Humanity," yet the labor
practices of athletic industry giant Fila and the other
official sportswear suppliers for the Games violate
accepted international labor standards!
Together we can put an end to this hypocrisy. Please join
us in asking Fila's CEO Steve Wynne to "celebrate
humanity" by guaranteeing that every worker in Fila's
supply chain is paid a living wage, has free access to
trade unions, and enjoys safe working conditions. Send
your message to Fila's CEO here:
http://www.care2.com/go/z/15709The workers, mostly women, responsible for producing the
gear that athletes will wear this August work in terrible
conditions with few rights - they suffer forced overtime,
fines for mistakes, and threats of being fired for joining
unions. This is no way to "celebrate humanity!"
As consumers, we want the latest products at the lowest
prices. To meet our demands, the highly competitive
athletic companies then shift this pressure to low-paid
workers in the developing world, who are already
powerless due to poverty.
This is our chance to wield our consumer power for the
good of workers.
Help put an end to exploitative labor in the Olympic Games
by sending a message to the CEO of Fila, and please tell
your friends about this campaign. Send your message today:
