Did anyone see NOW with Bill Moyer.....
I was sure I was in nazi Germany where the neediest among us are left to die....Governor Haley Barbour, due to budget deficits is eliminating the thousand on medicaid who are sick or handicapped. These people are surely going to have to choose between meds or eating. Most only live on under $600 monthly and that is what their meds will cost..The examples we saw would leave some with $6 a month for food!......What was so revolting about this segment was he had a choice....Mississippi has the lowest cigarette tax in the country. If he just raised the tax he would not have to cut medicaid. ....but of course he owes his soul to the tobacco companies.

1. What I really don't get
Those people have been refusing to pass taxes and social programs for 40 years. They're economy sucks and always has, schools are awful, crime is high. Do they WANT to live in poverty? That's what I just don't get. All they have to do is look at other states that pay for social programs and education to see that it improves the economy. They're making a conscious choice to stay broke. Just too weird.

2. As we say in Alabama
"Thank God for Mississippi, or we would be last in everything".

3. Barbour is helping in one way
He will announce a plan next week for those that will be forced to die a slow and painful death. For the special price of only $99.95, they can take advantage of his new "Rent To Die" plan. The state will rent them a special Haley Barbour police revolver with suicide instructions and bullets for one week at this special low price. A restocking fee of $25.00 will apply if brain parts are found on the revolver, or if it isn't returned within 7 days.

George W. Bush praised the plan and offered free pine boxes for all participants. Trent Lott was unavailable for comment, but his hair piece indicated the Senator and former high school cheerleader thought it was a cost effective measure in keeping with the tradition of the republican party.

5. That is a good way to adjust for the "inverted pyramid" of SS
benefits (where few young people have to support a higher number of older people): if you kill them off, no pyramid. Presto, no problem.

Then it should be easier to eliminate SS also...
