11. He must be revered by the upper crust
They have their own sweet wink, wink, nudge, nudge society. The rugged individual was never about winning with innovative ideas. It was about knowing how to cheat the system without getting caught. They did that effectively by buying the legal system and creating a rabbit patch. Rabbit patches are grown by farmers who hope the rabbits will focus on the rabbit patch instead of the main crop. So, street crime became a rabbit patch in the 80s. The definition of crime just changed with Reagan. Crime was a black man or woman of little or no means, a migrant worker or hispanic who would mug you on the street and through social services. And while the Republican constituents were focused on the rabbit patch, Cheney and his ilk just reaped one success after the other, and continued to buy judges, lawyers and politicians.

They don't need the Rabbit Patch anymore. Now the Republican's method is just to bribe everyone with federal grant money. That's what's behind the faith based initiative and just about every executive order that includes money. It's a self-generating system. Because once the people are bought, they stay bought.

14. And that's exactly what they tell each other.
"Principles are OK up to a certain point". What Dick Cheney means here, is that principles are soft. They're shifting and movable. If your principle doesn't serve you at the moment, then you abandon it. Which means that you HAVE no principle.

That's the definition of principle: it is a guideline, a long term solution to shorter-term problems. For example, I have a principle of not stealing.

However, if I'm in a gift shop and I see a beautiful crystal bowl that I really want and the clerk is occupied, I turn around and steal it. That's the same thing as not having a priniple. Of course, Cheney knows this very well.

What he's really saying here is, as long as I pretend to be honest, or if it makes me look better in the polls, then I'll be honest. But the minute it conflicts with my getting a no-bid contract for Halliburton, I'm lying all the way.

What you see is what you get with Dick Cheney.

22. Even worse when you gather a group of like minded people knotted
together in flagging ego groupthink...Together, they think nothing to Lie, Cheat and Steal their way to a WIN..on that malevolently inspired principles alone..saving face.

There are more people than not joined together in group think as a winning proposition. They can't bear the thought of ever being human...err I mean admitting their wrong in their principles...

So partners in crime are the aspirin of the day that soothe sagging egos.

FU has become unglued. I bet he's threatened * and Rove with retaliation if they dump him though. It's the honor among thieves thing: they all have bloody hands, and if one goes down so goes the cabal.

24. quite right: the neolibs think morals, principles, and positions are bad,
if not outright dangerous; if anyone points out that they say that, though, they scream and howl and cry. Same goes for their unifying of neocons and neolibs; they blather how this will "win the swing voter," then have aneurysms when someone remarks that this will bring the Dems further right--exactly what they demanded two second before...

this woman I worked with (white, screwed her way to management) once remarked to me about my race: "You people let morals get in the way".

True story.
