Question about mass graves in Iraq?
the mass graves we have found... they're all from pre-gulf war one, right? None of them are from the 90's, right?

2. actually, IIRC they are from when Bush I encouraged an uprising
after Gulf War I and then left them hanging. Saddam put down the uprising brutally and the graves are from then

we need to get some forensic people in there to do the research

I saw a gal on NOW last week who did that in Bosnia for the mass graves there

3. Most are from the Iran-Iraq war of 1980-1988
Some are undoubtedly from both the Shi'ite and Kurdish uprisings encouraged by Poppy Bush, who then decided not to give the support he had promised them.

All the howling about mass graves is ridiculous. First, by Islamic law, the dead must be buried very quickly. Second, it's a hot climate with no refrigerated morgue facilities. Holding the dead for identification by relatives would have been a public health nightmare as the tens of thousands of bodies began to decmopose and spread disease.

If anyone is really responsible for the mass graves, it's the US, first by instigating the Iran war and later by instigating rebellion and not following through with the help that was promised. The likely culprit behind both is Daddy Bush, former head of the CIA, Vice President, and then President.

many were iranian soldiers....I remember there was supposed to be a trade Of mass grave remains between iran and Iraq for the remains...Iran had Iraqis in it's graves, Iraq had Iranians and others...what a grizzly job to sort that out..Of course this situation was used to illuminate Saddams evil intent, not much mention of it anymore..questions , questions?

4. didn't schwarzkopf bury a whole bunch of iraqi soldiers alive?
didn't we just bulldoze sand over them?

I think some graves are also iraqi war casualties from our bombing, etc.

Who the hell noze what to believe?

5. Actually, I have read some articles published in other nations
that suspect that the U.S. is responsible for mass graves of its own, alleging that we have buried Iraqis and others (immigrant U.S. soldiers without U.S. citizenship) that have died at our hands. Use of mass graves to cover-up our atrocities.

It is scary to think we could be responsible for such atrocities, but with the admin in power, it would not surprise me.

6. After G. W. Bush ordered a massive bombing of Fallufujah,
..a couple of months ago, the Iraqis had to bury their dead in a soccer stadium.

So the US created at least one mass grave.

8. There have been only two that we have found
One up in NE Iraq from the Iraq/Iran War when both sides gassed each other.

Another one in southern Iraq from the Shite uprising, that was the result of Bu$h Sr's meddling.

Other than those two I have not seen evidence any other graves in Iraq, except for the new ones since the US invasion.

9. Seems Tony Blair is confirming what some of already knew
PM admits graves claim 'untrue'

July 18, 2004

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/politics/story/0,6903,1263830,00.html

Downing Street has admitted to The Observer that repeated claims by Tony Blair that '400,000 bodies had been found in Iraqi mass graves' is untrue, and only about 5,000 corpses have so far been uncovered.

The claims by Blair in November and December of last year, were given widespread credence, quoted by MPs and widely published, including in the introduction to a US government pamphlet on Iraq's mass graves.

In that publication - Iraq's Legacy of Terror: Mass Graves produced by USAID, the US government aid distribution agency, Blair is quoted from 20 November last year: 'We've already discovered, just so far, the remains of 400,000 people in mass graves.'

<snip>

At the heart of the questions are the numbers so far identified in Iraq's graves. Of 270 suspected grave sites identified in the last year, 55 have now been examined, revealing, according to the best estimates that The Observer has been able to obtain, around 5,000 bodies. Forensic examination of grave sites has been hampered by lack of security in Iraq, amid widespread complaints by human rights organisations that until recently the graves have not been secured and protected.
