A story of a soldier and his family while on leave
Edited on Sat Jul-17-04 01:29 PM by Snoggera
I'm not sure what to make of this article, other than that it is sad that so many have to endure what this family is. At least he's still alive, for the time being. It brought out a hell of a lot of emotions to read it.

What is your response to this article?

Despite what Americans have seen on television or read in newspapers, the expectations of the Iraqi people were somewhat skewed by their lack of understanding military process.

"In the beginning, when Baghdad fell, it's what they wanted," Bryan said. "They were happy and grateful. But I think that they thought we'd just turn around and leave right away. And you just can't do that. Their country is still unstable and therefore vulnerable.

"I think the ones who disliked us the most were not the ones connected with the Iraqi forces, or even the splinter groups still loyal to Saddam. They were the ones who were just the average citizens, working all their lives to save their money and put their kids through school. When we attacked, their money was worthless. They're the ones who are the angriest."

"I really feel as if Iraq is a stepping stone to something bigger," he said. "But I don't know."

3. I wish we could make those soldiers
understand that we are not protesting them, but the person(s) who sent them there. The conditions for the soldiers are dreadful. They aren't being supported by this *resident.

4. I hope he can adjust if this war is ever "over."
So many, like him, will come home and never be able to adjust to life without the military/war.

And I, too, hope that all soldiers realize that most of us are protesting the war and not the soldiers who are the pawns of the government.

(and thanks for fixing the link)
