Whoopi Defends Bush Comments After Slim-Fast Firing

Ghost star Whoopi Goldberg has defended her choice to attack American President George W. Bush, which led to her being dropped as a spokesperson for diet aid company Slim-fast. Bosses at Slim-Fast dropped the Oscar-winning star from their ad campaign, after admitting they were "disappointed" in her remarks at last Thursday's $7.5 million star-studded fundraiser for presidential hopeful John Kerry at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Goldberg caused offence at the event, when, according to the New York Post, "She fired off a stream of vulgar sexual wordplays on Bush's name in a riff about female genitalia." But an unrepentant Goldberg hits back in a written statement, "Just because I'm no longer in those (commercial) spots, it doesn't mean I will stop talking. While I can appreciate what the Slim-Fast people need to do in order to protect their business, I must also do what I need to do as an artist, as a writer and as an American - not to mention as a comic. I only wish that the Republican re-election committee would spend as much time working on the economy as they seem to be spending trying to harm my pocketbook."

4. This just felt wrong from the start

Whoopi's whole schtick has been disrespect and what she said wasn't even new material. However Whoopi in a Slimfast commercial was new and when I saw the first one I asked myself why is she doing this? I know money, but why would Slim Fast pick such a controversial spokesperson and then fire when she stayed in character.

Love ya Whoopi always have and always will but I am not going to waste my time on this. If Slimfast + Whoopi wasn't a setup, it was a really poorly conceived idea.

7. I HATED watching her call herself a big loser.

That grated on me. It was a joke, but not a good one.

I can't believe they hired her in the first place, she's the one that first told the joke about the country being run by a bush, a dick and a colon.

Her speech at the march for women's lives with the coat-hanger was fabulous.

that's for sure. Nor will I drink Lipton tea. SlimFast helps most of the people it does help by giving them diarrhea anyway---if that is a good weight loss method for you, go for it.
