WP ombudsman sides with amnesiacs (uranium claim)
"Marshall takes issue with The Post's reporting that "contrary to Wilson's assertions . . . the CIA did not tell the White House it had qualms about the reliability of the African intelligence that made its way into the 16 fateful words in President Bush's January 2003 State of the Union address." Actually, the CIA fought hard, and successfully, to keep the material about Africa, aspects of which were a matter of dispute, out of a major speech Bush gave in October 2002. But the Senate study points out that in January 2003, the CIA, which still believed Iraq was probably seeking uranium from Africa, did not tell the White House to take out those 16 words from the State of the Union address and that then-CIA Director George Tenet had not even read the speech beforehand." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A58334-2004Jul17.html

Shorter: You can't expect the WH to remember what intel is questionable, they're stupid. It's CIA's job to keep the WH in line, always!

Again, everybody - from the SSCI report, page 56:

<George Tenet> called the Deputy National Security Advisor directly to outline the CIA's concerns. On July 16, 2003, the DCI testified before the SSCI that he told the Deputy National Security Advisor that the "President should not be a fact witness on this issue," because his analysts had told him the "reporting was weak." The NSC then removed the uranium reference from the draft of the speech.

1. Tenet, Oct 2002: It's not true. Don't put it in.
Bush administration, Jan 2003: Is it true yet?

Shut the fuck UP, you STUPID PIECES OF SHIT.

2. The Senate Comm. failed us here, more than the Post -- and the 9/11 Comm..
is set to do the same. I'm reluctant to defend Steno Sue Schmidt, but I believe she was reporting what the "bipartisan" Senate committee found. Whitewash in Britain, whitewash in the U.S. --

3. The Senate committe said otherwise
They report that the CIA did indeed express serious doubts about the quality of the "niger intelligence" and never told the WH anything like "this is solid now". Don't let the right wing echo chamber cause you to lose focus on that fact!

5. The WHORESHINGTON POST lies again.
Edited on Sun Jul-18-04 09:50 AM by The Zanti Regent
Why waste time with the assholes who run the Post? All they do is lie for the GOP. We need to strike back by boycotting everyone who buys ads in that rag.

Better yet, we need a Milion People to March on the Post and shut it down. I wonder how assholes like Woodward would feel if a million angry pissed off people surrounded him, cut off his utilities and refused to let that liar leave the building or let his sleazy turd-filled rag go out?
