A Good Sign in Red Country (or should I say purple?)
My wife and I were eating lunch at Buca di Beppo in west Omaha yesterday. We sat behind a booth of about six wealthy, older (50s-60s), white women, and I noticed they were talking politics. Since west Omaha is an enclave of SUV-driving, Bible-thumping Republicans, I assumed they would be pro-Bush. I couldn't have been more wrong.

The ladies were slamming ChimpCo™ at every opportunity--especially regarding his foreign policy. The subject shifted to the media. One complained that her husband watched Fox News all the time. She said it was "disgusting." The best part was when one lady started talking about the Daily Show bit that exposed the proliferation of GOP talking points in the media! The Daily Show!

As long as voting remains a private act, I have a feeling that many Republican wives will vote Kerry, come November 2.

2. I work with several contrite Bush voters.
People who bought the compassionate conservative line in '00, but now won't touch Dubya with a ten-foot Diebold machine.

4. Another actual sign...
Leaving the movie theater the other day, I saw a sign planted in the median that said, "Just seen Fahrenheit 9/11? Make a difference; visit www.douglascountydemocrats.com.

5. I love the way DUers tell these stories! Great vignettes of reality,
not the manufactured media vapors.

7. Well... probably not. But it's still a nice thought.
Though, I think NE does have proportional electoral votes--meaning Kerry could get one while Bush gets two.

8. You mean Nebraska is not "winner take all" electoral votes?
Like most other states?

10. Ah, that's right...... you have that ........ will be watching to see how
that plays out.

We vote on that in Co this Nov, and I'm thinking I will vote for it. Unless you have other thoughts about it to share.
