Lieberman plans to run again in 2006
Unfortunately, I don't see any in the Democratic establishment here in CT that will challenge him - I think most will focus on the governorship, which is also up in 2006.

>>>He is back, full blast, to being a U.S. senator, visiting Connecticut diners and worrying about highway money and Long Island Sound. He intends to run for re-election to a fourth Senate term in 2006. He does not want to be Senate Democratic leader - "I did that for six years in the state Senate," he laughs. And should a Democrat offer him a Cabinet post, he doubts he would be interested.<<<

3. CT wake up! There must be some warm body

that can run against this wimp. I love CT and there are many brilliant Democrats there. As wimpy as Joe is, there has got to be someone with a pulse that can beat him.

7. good candidates, but
I think most are too loyal to challenge JoeMentum.

Blumenthal is the most likely candidate, but I see him going for the governorship, and I don't think Larson or DeLauro would challenge Lieberman.

25. Snarky comment...
Unbecoming to DU.
I don't like Lieberman very much after his egregious run in the primary. But the comments about his loyalties are purely gratuitous.

8. Man, as much as I dislike Joe's weakness, I DO want a Dem in that seat
Edited on Sun Jul-18-04 10:47 AM by tom_paine
Go Joe!

Yes, a primary challenger would be nice but a WIN would be better.

We MUST have control of the Senate if America is to survive and grow strong again!

9. I want to see Susan Bysewich (sp) run
Edited on Sun Jul-18-04 10:58 AM by calico1
She is smart. Or even Kevin Sullivan or Richard Blumenthal. I had a lot of respect for Lieberman. I think he is honest and though a little Conservative for me I think his intentions were good. However, it is clear that his desire for personal gain is more important to him than his job to serve the State.

11. I'd love to see her, too, but...
I don't see any Democrat in the Hartford area as having enough moxie to challenge Lieberman.

I think it is spelled Bysiewicz. Good resume in that she graduated from Yale and also Duke Law...

21. It is, but he never wants it. He wants to be Senator.
He should be looking to replace Lieberman right now. The reason Ct has 3 of 5 Rep congressmen is that the Dems are happy to suck ass. If they had any balls they would go after Lieberman's seat, the Governor's House and the 3 repub seats. After Rowland and Bush, a more Progressive Democratic Party in CT would wipe the slate, but no, they are happy with the status quo. GOD, I wish Connecticut wasn't so crooked.

23. I think Simmons is beatable...
Not so sure anybody could beat Johnson or Shays. Fairfield Cty has had those moderate Repubs in there for decades.

14. Attorney General Dick Blumenthal should run against him.
Joe Sucks would not have won CT in the primary, the Dems in this state hate him so much. Dick has always wanted to be a Senator, nows the time, PLEASE.

16. he heh that Joe is always good for a laugh.
I've had my best laughs on the Joe Lieberman threads. Especially when the democratic contenders started to get serious, and he refused to give up the ghost. I used to laugh my way down the threads.

I still say he has value for the Democrats - as a Buffoon.

I strongly disagree with his views on Israel and the Iraq War but he's a good guy on other issues. I like Joe, even without his Joementum.

24. If someone were to run
against him in the primaries, that person would get money from all over...They would definetely get grass roots support.

Unfortunately, he's too entrenched in the establishment, and I don't think anyone has the guts to do it.

I myself used to defend him on occasion during the primaries, but I lost all respect when he dismissed Richard Clarke.

He needs to go. Hey the republicans found a nut to run against Spectar, and he's more loyal to the party line than Lieberman is. CT isn't a RW state (has been trending democratic). Hell, Chris Dowd is a lot better than Lieberman.
