Ben Bagdikian wrote "The Media Monopoly" in 1983. The book was prescient in describing media consolidation.
Mark Hertsgaard wrote "On Bended Knee" in 1988. The book described how the press allowed itself to be used by the Reagan White House.
Both books are must-reads for those interested in the modern press. They also shed much light on what corporate ownership has meant for our democracy.
