Our "Outfox" MoveOn.org house party is full up! You going?
Edited on Sun Jul-18-04 01:41 PM by joefree1
We're having a MoveOn.org house party in San Fernando, California tonight and it's full! How about you? Are you hosting a party or goint to one? Git them Faux News nitwits. Here's more info on the event:

Dear MoveOn member,

For years, Fox News has been distorting the facts, covering for President Bush, and bashing groups like MoveOn. Now Uncovered director Robert Greenwald — working with a group of Fox-monitoring MoveOn members — has put together a documentary film that exposes Fox for what it is: partisan spin, not news.

We're using this movie to launch an organizing campaign with Common Cause and other great groups to "out" Fox News — making sure everyone in the country knows the network is stumping for the Republican agenda.

Be among the first to see this new movie, help others see it, and take on Fox by hosting an Outfoxed house party on Sunday evening, July 18th. Sign up at:

http://action.moveon.org/outfoxed/newmeeting.html

Fox News star Bill O'Reilly will stop at nothing in acting as a partisan flak for Bush. When the 9/11 Commission reported finding no evidence of a link between Iraq and al-Qaeda, O'Reilly lashed out at the nation's major newspapers for reporting it. In June alone, O'Reilly compared Bush critics Michael Moore and Al Franken to Nazi propagandists and journalist Bill Moyers to Mao Zedong.

Unfortunately, parroting the Republican Party message is common in Fox's regular news reporting as well. Outfoxed features interviews with seven ex-Fox News employees who describe how, every day, highly partisan talking points are drawn up to influence newscasts.

When Michael Moore was asked what surprised him most during the making of Fahrenheit 9/11, he described his discovery of archived news footage the networks had edited or not aired at all in order to protect President Bush's image. His comments highlight the media's recent failure to independently evaluate Bush's claims before the war — and no network failed more completely than Fox.

In addition to Common Cause, our partners on this campaign include the Center for American Progress, Free Press, Media Matters for America, and Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR).

On Sunday, July 18th, we'll get together to see the compelling evidence of Fox's partisanship presented in the Outfoxed film. Then we'll all join an interactive coast-to-coast conference call with Al Franken and director Robert Greenwald, to plan out how we'll take on Fox and take back our media.

2. Fun!
I checked local house parties for my region and there was only one, but it was already filled up! That's okay though, I already ordered the movie from outfoxed.org and will have my own little Faux News party :-)

5. I know what you mean
We tried to go to a MoveOn.org house party for 911 but they were all full. Here in San Fernando there must have been at least twenty parties too.

3. Ours is full here in Atlanta too!
And it's just one of several here.

Tried to limit it to 65, may end up with over 100.

And I'm in charge of parking arrangements. Yikes!

6. Question for anyone who has seen the movie
I only saw the trailer and I saw this part where some talking head was trying to tell of Janeane Garafalo citing that Saddam loves people like her and she started to say "oh don't even go there"

My question is, do we get to see her tell this clown off or not? that to me is worth the $10 itself.

7. Not that I remember her replying to this "stalking point"
Best not to give into this tactic:

Stalking Points: Also known as "bait and switch," Rethuglican attempts to divert any logic based discussion of politics with inflammatory non sequitur.*

This technique forces the opposing debater to "stalk" the rethug through a wilderness of inflammatory insults, labels and accusations with no pause for factual debate.

* Following a statement with totally unrelated statement.

12. I was "outfoxed" by the scheduling faux-ups
The first one I signed up for was close to me and convenient, and I had a question, so happened to find the person's name in teh phone book. She was glad I called, and distraught, because she had a family emergency, and had to cancel, and moveone wouldn't reply to her emails to that effect. However, she offered me the loan of her video. Nice person!

So, I signed up for another one, but moveon screwed up and allowed too many people to sign up for a tiny house, and sent a dvd even though the person requested a video (and doesn't have a dvd player), so that one is out.

At least I'll be able to watch the video from the other person, when she returns to town.

Wish moveon had been a bit more with it.....

Kanary
