Democrats said Schwarzenegger’s remarks were insulting to women and gays and distracted from budget negotiations. State Sen. Sheila Kuehl said the governor had resorted to “blatant homophobia.” It uses an image that is associated with gay men in an insulting way, and it was supposed to be an insult. That’s very troubling that he would use such a homophobic way of trying to put down legislative leadership,” said Kuehl, one of five members of the Legislature’s five-member Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Caucus.

At a rally Sunday in Stockton, the governor gave a speech almost identical to the one he delivered in Ontario but without the “girlie men” remark. Spokesman Rob Stutzman said the line was dropped because Schwarzenegger had already sent the message he wanted to send, not because he regretted his remarks.

“It’s a forceful way of making the point to regular Californians that legislators are wimps when they let special interests push them around,” Stutzman said. “If they complain too much about this, I guess they’re making the governor’s point.”

My comment: when repugs complain about "hatefests" they are manly; if democrats complain they are "girlie"...

Stockton may be home to uber-Republican contributor/San Diego Chargers owner Alex Spanos, but it is hardly the center of California "freeper trash," as you put it. Stockton is 90 miles east of San Francisco, and the city is, ethnically, one of the most diverse in California. Politically, it's got as many liberals as it has right wingers. Now, Lodi, 10 miles north, is an old German settlement with a long-active John Birch Society, and Tracy, 20 miles southwest, is where they filmed the 1970s documentary California Reich. But as the Bay Area spreads out eastward, San Joaquin County is changing, too.

Now, Fresno is freeper country. Hell, Free Republic is based there.

Gotta stand up for Stockton, though. I grew up there.

Many of these same ethnically diverse individuals you speak of vote Repuke because Uncle A.G. says so. We have a Hispanic Mayor who is a fucking Repuke. The fucking Rethugs took over SUSD and named a school after bunnypants as a result of holding the naming of a new school after Cezar Chavez hostage. This town is drowning in Neo Rethuglicans. Middle class folks are lining up for the kool aid daily. Many of them are ethnic. There is virtually no voice for liberals and progressives in Stockton.

16. Getting Upset About The Wrong Thing

Who cares if he called people girlie men. He was trying to be funny. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. If the crowd laughed it worked. Big deal. People getting all upset and calling him homophobic (which he may be) misses the entire point and are glossing over what they should be getting angry about..

The response should be something about how the republicans and conservatives are the ones more in bed with the special interests. Funny how a large number of people are in unions but to represent unions is not to represent people.
