Please tell me again why I should not worry that Rove will drop Cheney |
|
and install Powell/McCain/Guliani during the Democrats convention week.

1. Because worrying won't lead anywhere. We have to work to make OUR TEAM |
|
THE BEST it can be against anybody they have in that position.

2. Cheney would tackle him and bite his head off? |
|
that'd be my guess at what would happen if Rove tried to shake the sneer

i don't think Powell wants it... Not sure about McCain
Guiliani is no better...remember, he had to drop out of the Senate race against Hilary due to health problems. Guiliani would be a liability.

6. they need to hold their conservative base who love Cheney |
|
also Powell or Guliani with their pro-choice credentials would turn off many. McCain is too much of a loose cannon and he will not run for VP against his friend Kerry.

9. I think it's a pretty safe bet that Bushco would ultimately... |
|
...kill Cheney, skin him, and eat his flesh raw on national TV if they thought that would assure them of staying in power.

12. You Should Not Worry Because it Would Not Win Them the Election |
|
VP selections usually don't decide the winner. And like Josh Marshall has noted, jettisoning Cheney would be a huge admission that the ticket is in trouble. The presumption of victory has been a powerful tool for Bush.
Besides, Cheney's like the 800-pound gorilla. He won't be off the ticket unless he says so.

Powell has been in the dog house up there so long that there is no chance they would offer it to him, let alone him accepting it. And even if all that happened, the Repubs wouldn't vote for him. They would like the IDEA of a minority candidate, but not the reality of one.
McCain has said repeadedly that he does not want to be anyone's VP. A large part of his charisma and reputation are built on being a straight shooter. He just couldn't do it without dooming his future. Also, even though he's campaigning for the Shrubster, they differ significantly on several issues. Too much for that to be a realistic pairing without somebody eating a LOT of crow.
And Giuliani? I would think the 'Pubs would hesitate to put THAT divorce in the spotlight.
Any other candidates? :-)

15. Thanks, everyone. I feel a little better, but IMO Powell pick would carry |
|
the minority vote. BTW I am working hard here.(A lot for a local legislator to beat a RW fundamentalist) Gave money to Kerry, Dean, and Senatorial campaigns.
