"Republican" dirty tricks in Atlanta
Tomorrow is primary day. One of the races is for City Council President, and one of the candidates is Michael Julian Bond. Yes, Julian Bond's son. It is a special election, and therefore technically non-partisan.

This morning on the way to work, there are folks standing on the street corner, wearing Michael Julian Bond T-shirts, and passing out flyers. The flyers are a list of candidates sponsored by a group called "Citizens For Good Government". Mr. Bond is first on the list. So far so good.

There are 9 names on the list. Six of them are known Democrats, including Michael. The other three are judges, so technically not party-affiliated, but their campaigns are each very clearly geared toward opposing "liberal activist" judges.

So, this group can endorse anybody they want to, but.... why are they wearing Michael T-shirts? We called Bond's campaign, they have no people in that neighborhood this morning. Bond is NOT supporting any of those 3 judges. Bond does not who who that group is.

Low down, dirty, shameless, cheating-because-they-can't-win conservatives. This has almost nothing to do with Bond. Whoever these people are are just trading on his well known name in order to associate their wacko judge candidates with him. They are purposely taking advantage of the non-partisan nature of judge contests, and the minimal awareness most people have of judge contests.

For those in Atlanta and Georgia, here are the names of those judges the 'Pubs have targeted:

Wendy Shoob
Bensonetta Tipton Lane- (Ms. Lane has had to sue her lunatic opponent because he has been publicizing completely false statements about her record. Of course it is too late to effect the election, but maybe after she kicks his ass tomorrow, then she can take him to the cleaners too!)

(In the other race, there are several sensible candidates (kind of unfortunately I guess), so instead of introducing all of them, let me introduce another judge the GOP has targeted that did not make the list):

Leah Sears (She is scheduled to become the first woman, and the first African-American woman, to become Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court.) Very smart. Very capable.

2. There is no trick too low
for the GOP here in Georgia. Really. From anti-Semitism and racism against minorities to blatant homophobia, nationalistic flag waving, and crazed zealot fundamentalism. We live with the foaming at the mouth rabid Repubs. After all, Zell is our senator. Ouch.

3. Here's another nifty trick
that the Repugs in Gainesville FL, pulled in our March elections.

The day before the election, they started putting out illegal yard signs attacking the dem candidate.

One of the signs was printed without the required notification about who paid for it, so you needed a detective to trace it. The other claimed to be by some PAC who was not registered anywhere.

Expect lots more of this sort of thing heading toward the election. These folks are desperate.
