BBV: Diebold Printing Union Problems |
|
Bev and Andy reported a potential problem with the Diebold Printing Plant in Everett, WA. 12M ballots may be at risk according to what they reported. I just got off the phone with the Union Organizer for the Teamsters Local 38 in Everett.
There are labor problems but they are a long way from unionizing. It probably won't happen this year because Diebold is doing all they can to throw up fences to block the workers from taking action.
One of the unfair labor practices employed by Diebold was to hire temporary employees who they hired under the agreement that they would vote against unionizing. They then announced that the temps would vote in any union election. That was denied by the Labor Relations Board. By the way, these temps are doing all of the work and the permanent employees are just standing around.
When Diebold lost that round they just recently informed all of the temps that they were now permanent employees. This, they hope, will get them around the ruling about temps voting.
There are constant depositions being taken on all kinds of issues. The organizer would not talk to me about some of the things that Diebold is doing.
Anyway, the union says that there will be no problems with getting ballots out as far as he knows.
