2. I heard someone on the radio
last week gloating saying "Michael Moore thought he could make more money than Spiderman 2" It was such a lie! Someone called in & said the film became a hit when it made 24 million on its opening weekend.The guy said "Big Deal!Spiderman made over 100 million opening day!"Theyare so dumb!They don't think about how many screens it opens on,how much the film cost to make,to promote,etc.Their simple minds can't grasp such details!PATHETIC!

3. Yes-they don't realize that if a movie like Spiderman doesn't top $200 Mil
it will lose money.

4. Spider Man 2 vs F9/11
Edited on Mon Jul-19-04 04:18 PM by Caution
Spider Man 2 -
Budget = $200million
Marketing = $50million
Earnings to date = $416million
profit = 66% of total expenditures
Spider Man 2 made .66 times in pure profit than was spent to produce and market

a 66% return is hugely successful.

F9/11
Budget = $6million
Marketing = $10million
Earnings to date = $100million
profit = 525% of total expenditures
F9/11 made 5.25 times in pure profit than was spent to produce and market

a 525% return is OBSCENELY successful.

(My numbers refelct worldwide earnings not just domestic)

6. thanks for pointing that out
I was going to, got distracted, you beat me to it.

Dollar for dollar, F911 is WAY WAY more profitable than Spiderman.

And you can bet your ass they're all taking notice.

5. They said the success will open the doors to more politically charged
films due out this summer but that the the big media moguals will stay away from them as not to step on the toes of the parent Co's like Disney etc. Said Disney likely took a beating on F911 because of it's success and that the movie will launch Lions Gate and IFC in to the big time.

8. Here is a link to a very similar MSNBC article
‘Fahrenheit 9/11’ reshapes indie film world

Michael Moore's “Fahrenheit 9/11” may or may not have an impact on the November presidential elections. But the controversial documentary is definitely reshaping the independent film landscape in Hollywood.
