Oops, They Invaded The Wrong Country?
by Ivan Eland - The Independent Institute

A potentially major news story - that Iran had more connections with al Qaeda than Iraq ever did, according to the 9-11 Commission's interim report - has been relegated to the back pages of nat'l newspapers and underplayed by the electronic media. The commission found that as many as 10 of the Sept 11 hijackers were given safe passage by the Iranians during the year before the attacks. Has the U.S. media already become so cynical about the Bush administation's motives for invading Iraq that this does not even rate a front page news story?

3. Sorry about that, Chief ...
this was the classic Maxwell Smart line when he really messed things up ... but what this Iraq / Iran idiocy really reminds me of are the old Gilda Radner "Emily Litella" routines on Saturday Night Live:

here's a description I found on the web:

"(Gilda Radner) Emily Litella, an elderly woman with a hearing problem seen on the op-ed "Weekend Update" segment of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE on the NBC network in the late 1970s. Dressed in a simple dress and a sweater, Emily Litella peered through her bifocals and read an editorial response only to discover in the middle of her report that she had gotten the theme of her story wrong. A typical example: "What is all this fuss I hear about the Supreme Court decision on a "Deaf" penalty. It's terrible! Deaf people have enough problems as it is" When the on-air reporter pointed out her error she would crinkle her nose and humbly say to the audience "Never Mind!" Other misunderstood topics included Soviet Jewelry, Endangered Feces, Making Puerto Rico a Steak, Presidential Erections, Pouring Money into Canker Research, the Eagle Rights Amendment, Busting School Children and Violins on Television. Emily's answering machine message said: "Hello, This is Emily Litella. I'm not home right now, but I will call you back as soon as possible. Just leave your name, number and what time you called after you hear the sound of the Jeep."

threat to Amernuka.

Watch out Iran, Algeria and Indonesia.

Relax Saudi Arabia.

Afghanistan only qualifies on two grounds, but you can transport oil through it, so it's almost as good...

There is a chance that in the second Bush administration the letter "V" will be declared a vowel and Spanish speaking Catholics will be declared Muslims. In this case, watch out Venezuela and Ecuador.
