Why are the fundies okay with taxpayer funded boob jobs?
I find altering the natural human form through such elective surgery morally reprehensible. I do not think it is right for the government to force me to pay for this purely superfluous surgery, in much the same way the fundies feel no tax money should pay for abortions.

So where does it end? Or, why does it begin and end with abortion? Wars based upon lies are morally reprehensible. So are no-bid contracts to the Vice President's company. So are the pay-schedule and employment policies at Wal Mart, the state-sanctioned sweat shops supported by our tax dollars and Chinese slave labor.

It all just puts the hypocrisy of the right's "moral" argument in the spotlight once again...directly where they can ignore it.

1. You note they say nothing against IVF
even though this necessarily results in the destruction of fertilized embryos.

Is this because too many well-off Republicans use In-Vitro Fertilization to concieve?

2. Does the taxpayer fund boob jobs?
My (private-sector employer-provided) insurance doesn't pay for non-reconstructive or otherwise medically necessary breast surgery (I just checked). Does the government?

I do think insurance should pay for things like reconstruction after mastectomy, accident or birth defect, or for a reduction when it's that or chronic pain. But not for elective cosmetic surgery.

4. No, we're talking about free boob jobs for military personnel
I think the military brass realized that that girl's breasts in the Abu Ghraib photo didn't offer a stunning-enough silouette in her olive t-shirt. To truly intimidate the prisoners, flap a couple of Double D's in their insurgent faces! If we're gonna allow broads in the trenches, might as well have something to play with, eh? God...the possibilities are endless when the Joint Chiefs Of Old White Guys are setting policy.

7. The military gives boob jobs?
Did I miss an earlier discussion? Anyone have a link?

If so -- that they provide cosmetic surgery but not many needed services is reprehensible. But we knew that.

5. I thought it was to give the surgeons
and staff regular practice, especially outside of wartime, for reconstructive work, to help keep their skills up. If that is the sole purpose, I'm okay with it. Otherwise, I'm not.

6. Me too.
As far as surgery for cosmetic reasons goes, I neither condemn nor condone it. It is an individual choice and I do not concern myself in other people's business. As far as paying for it--I believe that the military pays their doctors a salary--so they get the same amount of money whether they do work or not. I have heard that purely cosmetic patients have to cover their own expenses (renting operating room, etc). So--this is not a big issue with me.

The Republicans are funding boob jobs while the troops and the veterans are having their benefits cut.
