If you can't stand Kerry... |
|
vote for him anyway.
However, there is more you can do. U.S. government is greater than the president. We, as Democrats, need to build our strengh, not just in the White House, but in Congress as well.
We have a great House leader in Nancy Pelosi, who voted against the war I might add. Progressives need to work to get her the majority she needs to become Speaker. We also need a majority in the Senate, even though Daschle is not the greatest leader in the world.
The point is, if Kerry frustrates you, vote for him, but work to put progressive candidates in lower offices. There are primaries starting in August and as late as September. Work for the most progressive candidate you can, so they get nominated. THEN work to get them elected.
The more progressives we get in there, the more responsive they will be to us. If politicians know one thing, it's who brought them to the dance, and they aren't ungracious.
Howard Dean's organization is endorsing several progressive candidates at all levels of government.
Go here to find out who
www.democracyforamerica.com
I also know that DailyKos has endorsed 8 progressive candidates

You can also just get involved in your own district or state. Find the most progressive candidate running and work hard for him or her.
The Republicans DID this on their side. It was the the efforts of the grassroots of the religious right that allowed them to take their party away from the wishy-washy moderates. Because of them, their party is in the majority. We can do the same on our side. Dean showed us how.
Let's entrench our voices in this party, through our work.

3. If we work for a democratic congress |
|
We can get Kerry to be progressive IMO, remember Clinton was intially quite progressive with a democratic congress but became a compromiser with a republican congress, and Kerry is more liberal than Clinton too, so if we work for a democratic congress, I think we'll have a progressive presidency. I dont know if we can regain both houses of congress but we can get the senate I think but if we want our progressive policies implented, lets work for a democratic congress.
