MSNBC: "First time both daughters have joined their dad"
They are now both officially "on the job"...just like Karen Hughes and Karl Rove...and they are not "kids." They are 22 years old.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5466291/

Bush’s twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna, were to accompany him Tuesday. It’s the first time they have made joint appearances with their dad on the campaign trail, although they each have traveled separately with him on other outings. The twins also will take part in an online chat Friday on Bush’s re-election Web site.

Aides say the president will stay out of sight at his Crawford, Texas, ranch from Friday evening until the Democratic convention concludes July 29. He’s expected back on the campaign trail the day after the convention.

“We’ll have a strong presence in Boston to respond to all of the charges and the negativity and pessimism that comes out of John Kerry’s and John Edwards’ campaign,” campaign spokesman Scott Stanzel said.

Although Bush will be idle during the Democratic convention, Vice President Dick Cheney plans a West Coast campaign swing. He will continue headlining re-election rallies and delivering policy speeches contrasting Bush’s records with Kerry’s, they said, declining to provide details. Cheney also will appear at fund-raisers for Republican congressional candidates.

1. Although Bush will be idle . . .
that snip just sounds odd to me . . . my impression is he's idle quite a bit.

2. do they make speeches?
Or do they just smile and wave? What is the point? Their mere presence is a wonderful asset to the Bush campaign ... why, exactly?

4. hey! lay off the twins!
They can drink their own weight in tequila and beer...which is totally necessary for campaigning.

;)

5. My question as well.
What do these two bring to a Bush administration?

3. I hate to see this
I've always considered that the children of political figures were off limits for criticism (even though Limbaugh and the rest of the right wing never observed that standard). Going out on the campaign trail makes the daughters targets. They are no longer "children" but "advocates" and hence, will become fair game.

6. I think, especially since they're stumping for their father,
it's fair game to ask whether or not they are following the "abstinence until marriage" line that their father wants to foist upon the country and the world via sex ed programs and reproductive clinic funding. If they're not, I also think it's legitimate to ask whether or not they're using the birth control pill, since the Republican Platform as written today would effectively criminalize it, and Bush has appointed persons to important FDA positions, like W. David Hager, who oppose it's use in all circumstances and believe it never should have been approved in the first place.

I think those questions are at least as legitimate as the catholic church dissecting Kerry's position on abortion.

7. I agree, and we should start preparing a list of pointed
questions for them - such as "Are your drinking/drug problems hereditary or due to your environment?"

11. Never noticed the cigarettes before
in their hands. Looks like Marlboro lights too (in Barbara's purse). Yep, pure as the driven snow...yellow snow, that is.

10. But gee...I thought Jenna posted at DU??? <GAG>
Where are all the posters that claimed the lovely twins were "liberals" a couple of months back?

Those two idiots are fair game as far as I am concerned now that they are campaigning for that troll.
