I can tell you disappointing stories about Democrats, but I don't want to get banned from DU. :-)

family and I can tell you that in my family and circle of friends there is no apparent correlation between intelligence and party affiliation.

Actually, I have lots of frustrating stories to share about young people in general who are hopelessly uninformed---such as kids who get their political knowledge just by watching Saturday Night Live.

These incredibly malinformed youths are nearly always Democrats (of course this is probably because the Rupugs that I have encountered are usually older. I have observed in my experience that the phrase "young republican" is an oxymoron.)

8. I wish young repuke were an oxymoron
but at my school (Ohio State), its not even close. We have a massive College Repukes chapter, and a highly conservative POS Newspaper that makes Geobbals (sp) look like Dr. Seuss. of course, there are a lot of dems + progressives too, but there are a lot of the "bomb the fuckers" types here

17. ugh how depressing! Where are you?
Here in California, the youth (17-30) tend to be Democrats (the youth do not tend to be as well-informed, but they do have enthusiasm). But, as people age--it really seems that they become more conservative.

20. Ohio State University (in Columbus)
Columbus itself is very liberal, but obviously most students come from elsewhere in the state; granted, we also have a large ACLU chapter (which isnt really liberal, but the repukes think of it as such), a very large College Dems, and a decent Amnesty and SSDP, but the repukes tend to be the loudest

21. I think that's the outcome of being ill-informed when young.
IMHO if people don't inform themselves as they age, choosing instead to remain stupid they will gravitate to Repugs; as it embraces people who don't exercise their intellect and are content to place their trust in a strong leader.

10. And some are old, conservative people who want things to be the way they
used to be, in a good way. The 1950s were a good time for them, a time of relative peace and prosperity, at least for middle class white people. Some are religious people who have strong convictions that I respect, even if I disagree with them.

my observation is that MOST stupid people are social conservatives, and most social conservatives are aligned with the Republican party. So the short answer is YES.

Because if they had a brain, they wouldn't be ReTHUGlicans.

Stupid Cargo-Cult ReTHUGlicans...Working at Wal-Mart, driving garbage trucks, changing oil for a living, listening to Gush Pfleghmball and buying that shit about all they have to do is work HARD and vote GOP, and someday, their cargo WILL come in, and then they can have a new double-wide and 4-wheelers and pocket bikes for all the kids.

I've known plenty of people with low intelligence who were extremely high on the scales of empathy and compassion. It is probably better to be able to relate to others than to reason, as some pukes, (although still stupid by my standards, because they are shortsighted and unable to see past their own egos) have above average intelligence according to the tests, and yet somehow manage to convince themselves that wrong is right--and can even manage phoney intellectual arguments to try to convince others.

Edit: typo--there's supposed to be an "s" in because.

Not unless they are friends of ... or related to my big-mouth sister-in-law. :)

She is one simple-minded, stubborn, dyed in the wool conservative who will not even listen to or discuss any other point of view but her own!
