Edited on Wed Jul-21-04 12:01 AM by Eric J in MN
Al Franken beats Bill O'Reilly! (among advertiser's popular group, 25-54 year olds)

Janeane Garofalo beats Laura Ingraham!

3. Thanks, I updated my top post based on the Drudge article.

Apparently, O'Reilly did slightly better overall than Franken, but Franken did much better among 25-54 year olds.

Hopefully, Franken will win next quarter.

4. In my opinion Air America's ratings would be double if they were aired
in all markets, including Armed Forces Radio, because;
1. it would create more of a storm
2. friends in other states would be talking to friends/relatives in other states what you heard on Air America. 'Oh you missed it, be sure to listen tomorrow.'

I can only listen to it on the internet and I live in a liberal stronghold, N. CA. As far as I'm concerned there is NO DOUBT there is a conspiracy to hold down and kill Air America. There is no other explanation for it in such a greedy America of today! There's big money to be made but still no market expansion after months and months!

9. I don't think it's because they're liberal, so much as because
a small number of companies own almost every radio station.

They want to avoid competition.

If there were limits on how may stations one company could own (say to 200), it would be esaier for Air America to exapnd.

5. Well, I suport them too - all Internet - nothing close here in liberal NE!
What's up with that? You'd think they could make some money by being on the air in the liberal Boston area!

7. Get Sirius
I did and I love it. Ihave it in my car, and home. They carry all the programs in full. Not chopped up like XM.
Also starting Aug 2nd, Mike Malloy will be airing for three hours starting at 10pm est.

8. Yeah, it does ...
But what it really means in this case isn't the young end, but the older end of the spectrum. The wingers are big with the over 55 crowd.

12. Totally good news.

The comment about the caribean station is a bit misleading. It wasnt like they took the audience with them. By changing format entirely, AAR started off with 0 listeners. Meaning that they have in one quarter already grabbed the same amount of people as the carribean music station. This is a perfectly good start as far as I can see it. Nothing to be worried about.

Great news for Franken and Minority Report. That is a very important step for the network. They need these guys to set down anchor in the ratings.

The real test is the next quarter though. If the numbers grow AAR should be in a position to raise more capital and expand more. They can also start playing more with thier content, adding programs in empty slots and meddling with the shows outside of franken and minority report to try and grab more ratings.

13. Let's See How This Plays In Miami
WINZ is a major signal in a very competitive market. Here AAR will go head on with all the wingnuts and give us a good indication of how this network plays outside "the liberal east".

Also, I'm curious about ratings in Portland...I haven't seen breakdowns of KPOJ's numbers...another AAR affiliate with a decent signal in a major rated market.

Good to see some of the numbers here, and without all the Arbitron breakout toys and tools...that really would show what's going on, as long as the "pundits" accept that the network has made it, that is a very big victory.

The network has done a lot to straighten out early messes, but it's still early, and hopefully strong ratings in other markets is what will continue to push Clear Channel to take chances and air it on signals in other markets.
