4. Sorry. I should have elaborated
Should Kerry win, there will be a special election for his seat. He has not resigned from the Senate as far as I know so I would assume he would keep his seat if he (god forbid) loses.

year. This was the case with Lieberman in 2000. He was running for VP and reelection in the Senate in the same year.

Edit--However, Kerry is not up for reelection this year for his senate seat.
