kerry's haLiburton scandaL - top 10 idiots hopefuL
today's cover of the boston heraLd had a kerry haLiburton scandaL excLusive. the scandaL?

"Teresa Heinz Kerry liked the Cheney-run Halliburton enough to buy and sell more than a $250,000 in company stock in 1996, netting a tidy profit of up to $15,000, records show."

is this story worthy of a misLeading titLe on the front page? is it worthy for another spot on the next top 10 idiots?

2. Of course a company with deep pentagon ties is a good investment.
What's scandalous about a good investment?

3. The Herald is feverish and unbalanced when it comes to the Kerrys
It often crosses over to absolute silliness, as it does here. :D

5. Snopes Anyone??? Reality Chek
1.) Mrs. Heinz had just married Mr. Kerry at the time and I'm certain he had no idea of what all the holdings in her many trusts and portfolios were.

2.) ...Mrs. Heinz was a REGISTER REPUGNICAN...the widow of a GOOP Senator and an executor of an estate that had donated millions to the Repugnican party...and still does.

3.) While Haliburton's role in the "outsourcing" of the military is easily traced for decades, it's role was passive until the Dickster came onto the scene...first at DOD, then as CEO of Halliburton a position he took in 1996...ironically the same year the Heinz family bought and sold that stock.

4.) Any traces of ownership of that company's stock since...and specifically since 2000????

I watch over a nice portfolio that has lots of stocks in it...and certainly nowhere near the size of the one Mrs. Heinz inherited. She was appointed an executor of that huge estate by the Heinz family for a good reason, and there hasn't ever been a question as to how she's handled those responsibilities...which are huge ones.

This is a non-story that just sounds juicy...and not unlike the Hearld to smear on Kerry. I can't believe people in Boston actually read that thing...or are there more bird cages per capita in New England than the rest of the country?

7. i couLd hazzard a guess on why we read it
the reasons i read it:

1. great sports coverage
2. that's aLL my famiLy read growing up.
3. i read it to get my bLood boiLing and to keep an eye on the other side.

why do others read it:

1. sports
2. they're disiLLusioned, angry white maLes (they're much more prevaLent here than you'd think). the heraLd passes itseLf off as the common man's paper, and that they're "Looking out for you".

their nonstop, "the sky is faLLing" over the DNC, and how the 'common man' is getting screwed over by the DNC is quite tiresome.

8. She's guilty!
How dare a woman make money on an investment which was, of course, made by her investment team?
