My LTTE was published today!!!!
Published in The Day today. The same paper that honored my request to reprint the Toronto Star editorial by Haroon Siddiqui Tutu: No Security Without Justice http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0715-05.htm They reprinted it on Monday, July 19.

Here's my LTTE
Israel Compared To South Africa, Not Nazis
http://www.theday.com/eng/web/news/re.aspx?re=64874E24-8DD6-4E17-ADE1-2304105C7CA2

“Those who accuse the Israelis of behaving like Nazis are full-blown anti-Semites or have no knowledge of history.” (Harry Leiser, “Silent forest demonstrates what makes Israel different,” July 18).

Actually, Israel is being compared to South Africa, under apartheid by notable people like Nobel Peace Prize winners Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela.

In 2002, Archbishop Tutu remarked upon his visit to the Holy Land, “it reminded me so much of what happened to us black people in South Africa...the humiliation of the Palestinians at checkpoints and roadblocks, suffering like us when young white police officers prevented us from moving about.”

When I was a freshman in college in 1979, I met a Palestinian student. She hated Israel, not because it was a Jewish state, but because they had taken her people's land. She told me that Israel should have been carved out of Germany, not Palestine, since it was the Germans, not the Palestinians, who committed the Holocaust. Why did her people have to suffer for the crimes committed by another country?

Even Mahatma Gandhi had sided with my Palestinian friend. In the Harijan of Nov. 11, 1938, Gandhi wrote, “...The cry for the national home for the Jews does not make much appeal to me. The sanction for it is sought in the Bible and in the tenacity with which the Jews have hankered after their return to Palestine...Palestine of the Biblical conception is not a geographical tract.”

My LTTE was in response to op ed Silent Forest Demonstrates What Makes Israel Different http://www.theday.com/eng/web/news/re.aspx?re=84B6A24C-9AFF-46E1-9808-C735471F0422

There have been quite a few LTTE's in The Day recently attacking Israel's unjust policies against the Palestinians. That's good news for justice in the world.
