Gross misinformation in NYT today
Adam Nagourney slips in this factual claim:

In Iraq, the transfer of sovereignty has led to some reduction in American casualties.
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/21/politics/campaign/21repubs.html?pagewanted=all&position=

This claim resembles something Dick Morris just wrote:

Whether the news is good — the handover of power in Iraq and the decreasing casualties — or bad — the intelligence failures and the Sept. 11 commission’s report — seems not to matter.

http://www.thehill.com/morris/072104.aspx

Unfortunately both Nagourney and Morris are totally WRONG:

Since the June 28 handover of power, the 160,000 coalition forces have averaged more than two deaths a day, among the highest rate of losses since the war began 15 months ago. By Saturday, 36 US soldiers had died this month, compared with 42 last month, according to a Globe analysis of official statistics.

2. Oh that? Just a typo
What the Nagourney sentence should have read is:

In Iraq, the transfer of sovereignty has led to some reduction in stateside reporting of American casualties.

4. exactly right
maybe Nagourney is basing this claim on watching TV.

Or reading Dick Morris columns:

Whether the news is good - the handover of power in Iraq and the decreasing casualties - or bad - the intelligence failures and the Sept. 11 commission’s report - seems not to matter.

3. Doesn't ANYBODY in Imperial Pravda FACT CHECK anymore?
Why do I insist on asking questions I already know the answers to?

No.

5. Call them on it.
Email them and dispute their assertion that there has been fewer casualties.
