She said amidst all the information and graphic visuals the thing that struck her the most was- the sad tale of Flint, Michigan. I thought it was a good point. How in the hell does a city in "the greatest country in the world" get to be so fucking sad and poor? And why in the hell do our leaders allow such a sad state of affairs? If we can't summon the political will, financial aid, economic know-how to help Flint, Michigan, who are we as a nation? On a side note, we also discussed our teen aged sons. I was freaking out after recieving a call from a Marine recruiter last night. Son was not at home and when he found out was disappointed he missed the call- "Coulda had some fun with that", was his comment. I'm still freaked out.

1. Because no one's "entitled" to economic aid. And they're "lazy".

The typical, social Darwinist approach to to U.S. economics. Sad, we live live in the richest fucking nation in the world, and it's just not enough for these arrogant pigs.

EDIT- added quotes

2. If this is "social Darwinism"
then Darwin was wrong.

(Punchline between my progressive neighbor at the cubicle-farm, and our coffee-in-the-morning RW buddy. Go figure, we're all Mets fans).

3. Watch Roger and Me
Short version: GM only made $3 billion instead of $4 billion one quarter so they closed some plants around Michigan, including several in Flint, and all of the businesses that survive on GM workers spending their checks fail too. This was about 15 years ago.

Not literally the truth but you get the idea.
