Were Liquor Stores in Iraq Before Bush's Invasion? |

Liquor sales a risky trade in new Iraqhttp://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=2027&e=3&u=/chitribts/20040721/ts_chicagotrib/liquorsalesariskytradeinnewiraqWhat next? Some Jehovah Witness on the streets? How about a few Deja Vue strip clubs with some crack cocaine and a church on the corner? Yeah, let's westernize Iraq!

Iraq was a secular society and I believe Iraq was one of the few places where someone could buy some whiskey.
As for strip clubs, what's the big problem with them? I'm not saying we should force them to have strip clubs or force stores there to sell playboys, but the only ones I see having problems with those things here in the US are psychotic religious freaks and a few feminists. I understand the feminists' argument against pornography and the like, but I think it's good to be open about sexuality.

5. That sounds about right |

The was certainly alcohol consumption in Iraq before the the invasion. Iraq was more secular than most Arab countries, but I remember hearing that Hussein had instituted more Islamic policies to win over the more religious elements. Who really knows what was going on though.
But I agree with your main point; if people want to drink and go to strip clubs, more power to them. I don't hear anyone complaining about hookers in Europe.

6. Sir, I don't have a problem with strip clubs.... |

My point is us regrettably forcing our 'values' on another culture....
