Newspaper chain votes to drop Doonesbury (Continental - 38 papers)
Edited on Thu Jul-22-04 01:59 AM by scottxyz
The Continental newspaper chain, consisting of 38 newspapers located predominantly in the Southeast, has voted to drop the Doonesbury comic strip.

"It was not a political statement of any kind," Continental Features President Van Wilkerson {said}. "I personally don't have an opinion about 'Doonesbury' one way or another."

3. Replacing it with "George Bush Superman"
With a red W on his chest, our hero saves America from the Constitution. Is every one south of the Mason Dixon line a dick? Can't have a cartoon with injured soldiers, they don't exist in the world of W.

5. They aren't the first to try it.

The last newspaper that dropped Doonesbury was the subject of an enormous letter writing campaign and they had to reinstate it.

It doesn't matter much to me. Print newspapers are dinosaurs anyway and I can get all the Doonesbury I want online.

On edit: hey, my Mark of the Beast post is in defense of Doonesbury. Sweet.
