Why does the news about some pregnant women disappering make
headlines and the news of some other pregnant women never even gets a mention in the local newspapers? It's sad in every case but I am getting sick and tired of news about missing or murdered white women diverting our attention from everything that affects our life and liberty. Especially when so many women of color...orientals, blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans are abused, missing, and murdered. Even the white women who make up stories (lie) about their tragedies get more airtime than women of color who are actually abused or killed. What's up with that?

1. Why?
Because police do the same thing. Police don't put the same resources into a black kid disappearing as a kid from the suburbs, and people working in the media make the same value judgment.

It's racism, and I'm sure the people involved are not even aware of how prejudiced they are. They just see two sets of people and give one set extra value because they look like them, talk like them and live in houses that look like theirs.

I'll give you just one other example: Bosnia vs. Rwanda. Which was the bigger story in the media and the number of deaths weren't even close? You tell me why.

2. Absolutely right on!
And why hasn't *'s federal law "protecting" unborn fetuses during crimes against their mothers protected this woman who was five weeks pregnant? That law is such a sham.

BTW, there are some OB's that don't even bother starting to see women who only "this pregnant". They don't start seeing them until they are two or three months along unless there are complications.

3. She's young, well off, and a looker
If she were older, poorer and uglier the news would be completely disinterested.

4. True, but let's be honest
It matters if you're white. African-American victims don't get big airtime no matter what they look like.

It's like there's some kind of rulebook. 'White female gets carjacked' = ten ghetto stories. Thousands of Africans dying equals one white farmer getting killed by angry black mob.

Just a reality.

5. I hope people understand when they send their sons and daughters
off to fight and die what they are really fighting for. All the lives and resources spent going after Saddam and we could simple stop sending weapons and other aid to Israel and get rid of the Sharon and the Likudniks.
