Could Freeperville, CA be mellowing?
I live in Ventura County, California, a highly conservative enclave wedged between the Democratic bastions of Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. This place is traditionally so conservative that Elton "I've Never Met a Mexican I Liked" Gallegly is repeatedly reelected to the HoR by overwhelming margins. Indeed, sometimes it feels more like I live in Alabama than in "liberal, tolerant" California. (apologies in advance to all Alabaman DUers.)

So, I've been very surprised that my car - which has displayed a Kerry for President bumper sticker and 2 anti-Bush stickers for more than a month now - hasn't been vandalized or had the stickers pulled off.

In fact, yesterday I went out to my car after work and found the following note on the windshield:

"Like the bumper stickers! Yay for being able to vote! :) "

I also don't see the Bush stickers around like I did 4 years ago.

Further, Elton "I've Never Met a Mexican I Liked" Gallegly is running scared in a close congressional race against an OPENLY GAY Democrat!!! Is the tide turning? It sure feels like it.

2. I live in Orange County,
another right wing conservative crack pot area, and people I don't even know have approached me about my Anyone But Bush sticker and started conversations about how they are Republicans but they're not voting for Bush, they're voting for Kerry. And I see a lot more Kerry stickers than Bush stickers.

4. Orange County, too?!?!?!
Now THAT is encouraging!!!

Of course, it was awesome when Loretta Sanchez beat "B-1 Bob" Dornan, too, so I guess Orange County has a recent history of being surprising.

3. If I lived in a Repub conclave
I'd get bumper stickers that said things like:

Republican Against Bush, Inflation, and Deficeits.

and

Don't blame me for Bush, I vote for conservative values.

Even if it isn't true, you'll make those Republicans who feel they have no choice but to vote for Bush realize that they too have freedom of choice.
