GOP Urges Pastors To Recruit Voters
(Eugene Oregon) Pastors need to use hot-button issues such as gay marriage to get more evangelical Christians to vote, a Republican National Committee-sponsored lecturer told more than 100 ministers gathered in Eugene.

David Barton, the second-highest-ranking GOP official in President Bush’s home state of Texas, also urged the pastors to become more politically active and push their parishioners to register to vote, pastors who attended the event said.

Barton leads a national group called WallBusters, dedicated to restoring “the constitutional, moral and religious foundation on which America was built.”

Critics say he is encroaching on the separation between church and state and risking churches’ tax-exempt status.

3. I hope that parishoners
aren't all sheep. Surely there will be one or two who will see this as wrong, and will question the seperation of church/state.

4. As a former fundamentalist
I always hated it when politics came up in church. We were pretty strict about not getting into that in the church I belonged to, but very occasionally it would rear it's ugly head in some comment by a junior pastor. Invariably, it would actually lead to people LEAVING the church, instead of the other way around.

I think this whole strategy could backfire.

5. Well, that would only matter in a Free Country, not Imperial Amerika
Where would you find soemone to prosecuter this among the Imperial Palace Staff.

The same guys who purposefully tanked the Anthrax Investigation?

Perhaps the guys who tanked the Plame investigation?

Yeah, right. That will happen when Himmler posthumously rises from the grave to investigate Hitler fully.

When that happens, and not before...

6. That's it................
start taxing every church that attempts to recruit voters. I'm tired of this shit. These freakin' Evangelicals are the American Taliban. Goddamned Republicans are pure freaking evil and I'm convinced Bush is the anti-Christ.

12. I've been saying since the time of St. Ronnie,
when Jerry Falwell started mixing into politics: TAX THE CHURCHES! Punish ALL for ONE, like they used to in school. You start revoking tax-exempt statuses right and left, and the churches will NEVER mix in politics AGAIN!

8. I've always thought that Democrats are guilty of this too
Afterall Democrats often during campaigns go to African American churches and speak to parishioners and are urged to vote Democratic by their pastors.
