IF Cheney was the source for Novak's outing, what is the...
...best time to bring that evidence forward, assuming for the sake of argument that is what berger got his hands on (someone in another thread mentioned this, and I found the idea plausible AND intriguing).

Evidence of this would certainly prove anyone who ordered it guilty of treason (I think).

So, a big assumption, but IF that were the case, I'm thinking the BEST time to spring it is the LAST DAY of the republican convention, WHILE Bush and Cheney are high-fiving each other....This would throw them into a huge dissarray, and the rest of the campaign would be thrown off track defending Cheney from the charges, PLUS it would highlight the arrogance if timed that way, AND it would prevent the ability to quickly change the veep choice DURING the convention. That would force them to do it after the convention...and hilarity would ensue.

what do you guys think?

1. I'm starting to believe
That important people in our party know who the leak is, and have undeniable proof. Just waiting for the right time to leak the leaker.

3. It's an interesting thought. I hope it is timed properly if this is true
Republicans are really for swift justice, I wonder if Cheney could be executed before the election? Heck, he mine as well get it over with - because win, lose or draw, he's toast.

Sent to wherever Cheney sent Aristide? That sounds like an appropriate punnishment!

4. my inane assessments of the Berger vs. Plame affairs. . .
are as follows. . .

Berger: No harm, No Foul.

He was fundamentally trying to cooperate with an investigatory commission in the most thorough manner possible. He took two "copies" of documents that he had probably written to cover his butt.

Plame: Major harm, Major foul.

Her career was ruined by a bunch of petty lame lassed morans who devalued and maligned a woman with a 20 year career of civil service in investigating WMD's (no big issue there) and her outing is rumored to have exposed 71 contacts she had nurtured over the past 20 years and possibly caused many of them to die.

Note the slight distinction.

This is such a lame assed lynch mob scenario.

14. That's not the real damage of the Plame leak
She was a field investigator working under the cover of an oil consulting firm. The CIA owns that consulting firm. Its profits is one way the CIA funds some of its black bag jobs. When they outed Plame, they also outed that entire consulting company and all of their employees as CIA operatives as well. It was a major peice in our intelligence gathering against terrorism and that assett was blown away with two phone calls.

That's your damage assessment.

7. It is close or they wouldn't have leaked the Berger deal.
Edited on Thu Jul-22-04 07:35 PM by merh
They will try to make lame comparisions to detract from the national security issues that are the Plame matter and they will try to say "just like Berger, so and so didn't have any intent to do anything wrong, we all make mistakes." IMHO :puke:

edited because I am a goof - typed comparisions when I meant issues!

. . the start of the pukefest in New York. That way the headlines all week will be about Plame and place a pall over the festivities.

13. No, day one of the convention. Then every guest has to talk about it
You want something like that to be on the lips of every GOPer who comes into the booths to be interviewed. It's one of the few scandals the media has been willing to pursue on the clowns.

15. I'm pretty sure it was Rove, not Cheyney.
Remember that the Bush, Sr. campaign fired Rove in '91 for leaking some story to Novak.

On the timing, I think the real question is whether this prosecutor has been persuaded to wait until after the election on the grounds of not interfering with the results. He is a Republican, after all.
