1. did the jays trade him?
Funny was hearing on Baseball Tonight the other day that he didnt want to be traded to a contender much like McGriff and Palmeiro. He's a good player I think, my team the orioles doesnt need him because we got Palmeiro at first and a pretty solid lineup all around but maybe when he's a free agent because this could be Palmeiro's last year and hes out of contract.

5. what happened exactly?
Is he standing by the Jays? Thats good if he is, because I know what its like to see star players go to teams just because they are better, cough Mike Mussina.

2. Carlos is a righteous dude.
A real stand-up guy. He has always stood by principle and is willing to put it all on the line. Gotta love that.

Viva Carlos Delgado, indeed.

7. Delgado is the baseball player who will not....
standup at the stadium when the US Anthem is played, right? Carlos is a natural born American from Puerto Rico. He is a member of the organaization against the US Vieques-US Military training grounds. The US for years, has been testing all sorts of bombs without informing the people of the tiny island of Vieques. As a result, 40-60% of women have cancer or died from it. Children are born with defects or not born at all. Cancer rate in men is also very high. Robert Kennedy Jr has lead the fight for the people of Vieques.

I support Carlos for staning up in support of the American-Vieques citizens. They have no voice, no money and no hope of winning against the US mighty might. If not standing up for the anthem will call attention to the suffering of Vieques, I say, 'Go Carlos.'

8. actually, he won't show his head for the seventh inning, during
which some parks play God Bless America

and his protest began with the Iraq war!

the Newsday article I read did not mention the anthem, but as he's in Toronto, maybe they don't play it at home, or it's not an issue there

when he's here, he's in the dugout, cause he's always on the visiting team, duh

so he doesn't have to advertise his anthem behavior

remember how they just REAMED that basketball player for refusing to do the anthem?

used to be with LSU? former name Jackson; changed it to something arabic

9. whoa amazing didnt know that, good guy
Actually being a baseball fan and having attended games with teams of two countries, they do play both national anthems, they played Oh Canada when the Jays played the Orioles at Camden Yards when I went a few years back. There was an incident a few years back where Yankee fans booed the canadian national anthem at yankee stadium, the Blue Jay fans retailiated by booing the US National Anthem when the two times were in Toronto. Nice to see that Delgado is a principled guy as well as a great athlete.

10. The USA anthem IS the Anthem of Puerto Rico USA.....
Puerto Rico doesn't have a national separate anthem. Puerto Rico USA is a US Territory. They do have patriotic folk songs dedicated to the beauty of the island, but no anthem. Canada is a separate country.
