Toby Keith: "People don't realize that I'm a registered Democrat"
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 03:36 PM by wicket
I didn't know that!

http://www.boston.com/ae/music/articles/2004/07/23/hes_not_afraid_to_speak_out_for_his_country

"People don't realize that I'm a registered Democrat," he says. "They automatically assume that I'm a chest-banging, war-drum-pounding Republican with my military stance."

-snip-

Still, the country star maintains that he's "more balanced than what some people would lead you to believe." For those searching for a full-blown conservative, Keith points to rocker Ted Nugent, with whom he just completed a USO tour of Iraq and Afghanistan. They were whisked around in Blackhawk helicopters to perform for the troops.

"Ted is so far out on the right that I can't even see him with a pair of binoculars," Keith says. "I'm probably the most right Democrat in the world, but Ted is so far on the other side that he's got problems with a bunch of Republicans."

-snip-

And while Keith may be a hawk on the war against terrorism, he's also a free spirit who shared marijuana with Willie Nelson and lived to sing about it in a recent tune, "Weed With Willie," which talks about ending up "in the fetal position" after smoking on Nelson's bus. But don't think that is Keith's normal lifestyle.

I will never forgive him for showing the doctored picture of the dixie chicks and Saddam Hussein, also cashing in on the 9-11 tradedy with the repugs and clear channel.
one of the dixie chicks wore a FU-TK shirt at a concert to protest him.

But Toby has totally lost it. Perhaps he can be classified as a Southern Democrat......

P.S. While they were on that USO tour, they should have picked up a gun and hunted down Osama or found those elusive WMD's. Better to lose a washed up singer than a US Soldier.....

60. Thank you so much for calling it what it is.
I'm sure Toby, like Alan Jackson, couldn't tell Iraq from Iran on a map. Guess what @ssholes, there is a big f@cking difference. Yes, it matters.

Toby has been Abu Ghraibed and he realizes how it is going to go down and that Natalie was right all along.

Just in time for the 9/11 commission report.

He said in an intervew with Dan Lather that we "ain't your daddies democrats", IOW we're just a bunch of commie pinko faggots.

I knew where he stood and I will never forgive him for giving the fascists a theme song, a tune to hum while they ignored all the news and intel saying Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. 30,000 people are dead, almost a thousand of our soldiers have lost their lives, and many more thousands are wounded over something most democrats knew was malarkey from the beginning, and NOW he's back-pedaling???

To Toby:
Too late p@ssy-boy, you made your bed, now lie in it. Here's a song for you:

It's too late baby, now it's too late...

His pro-war music is going to be one of those lasting stains on the public psyche. Something people will look back at in 50 years and ask, "what the hell were they thinking?"

What I should have said is that this is actually really good news for our party.

This is usually what a lot of people say when someone says they're going dem, especially a conservative.

But I had to work through all my anger first.

43. Which is an interesting concept.
These folks spend thousands on focus groups, surveys and polls relative to the markets for their artists. They are more organized on determining the "wants" of society than any other interest, including politics. They don't gear their questions for political responses, they prepared them for "honest" responses so that they know what the market wants in order to get their artists to adapt.

Now, think about it, does this mean that their focus group datas reflect that Toby should switch his stance?

Interesting....

of Toby Keith (I have heard a few snippets here and there). Can someone tell me-if his music is just patriotic (ie supporting the country and troops etc--OR does his music actually support the repugs and Bush?

I honestly have not heard enough of him to know (and not being a big country fan, I don't buy or listen anyway).

I also don't let the fans of entertainers influence my opinions of their art--I am just curious.

Not one of the world's most subtle political thinkers, he's surely done some flag-waving. But he's not a vicious creep like Ted Nugent.

I love Country music (among other kinds) but am not very fond of the current Nashville crew. He has done some songs I like well enough.

Some people just hate him because they hate all Country music.

and like some of Toby's music but prefer the Dixie Chicks philosophy. His 'American Soldier' is just glorifying being a soldier. His 'boot in the ass' song was a reaction to 9-11 and although it isn't my reaction I understand. The one I truly hate (and turn the station EVERY time he STILL comes on) is Daryl Worley who has a song justifying invading Iraq because of 9-11-'Have you forgotten?'. If you haven't heard his(Keith's) smoking weed with Willy song, its worthwhile.

55. I think he should report to Ashcroft ASAP & ask to be arrested for pot
smoking and ask for southern Democrat style (rethug) drug law justice. Maximum sentence. The money he used to buy that pot went directly to terrorists.

Political hypocrisy among the law and order crowd never ceases.

75. Gretchen Wilson is a total ho
And Keith is an instigator. I agree with the person above who said it's just an act to sell records -- when you have no talent you have to ride anything you can to sell records -- Just like Jessica Simpson and her tits, and Ashlee Simpson and her sister's tits.

I've always heard that country music has a real libertarian disposition -- as in it hates the government and "the man" equally. Somehow, it seems, though, that country music has stopped singing about "the man," a lot -- or either doesn't recognize that the reason we need to put a boot in the ass of anyone is because our foreign policy is the result of what "the man" wants.

I don't care if he's a member of the Socialist Workers' Party -- he's done enough to keep people stupid and dumbly proud -- and diverted away from a real discussion of our problems into garrish nationalism and dumbed-down war cries.

Willie needs to cut this guy loose. ASAP.
