WTF is wrong with Ohio?
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 05:44 PM by RummyTheDummy
I was looking at www.electoral-vote.com and apparently there's a new poll in Ohio with * up by 5.

Why aren't the people there getting with the program? It looks like Kerry has finally broken through in Penn., but Ohio has been a hard nut to crack.

I don't get it, especially with all the economic set backs in that part of the country.

1. Polls, Polls, Polls
I just saw one poll on CNN with Kerry up by 2 or 3 points in Ohio. I think they all vary depending on who conducts the poll.

I think Kerry will take Ohio.

3. Southern part of Ohio
The southern part of Ohio is very conservative. That could be where the bump for Bush is coming from. It's like living in the South down here.

15. Actually....
It was southwestern and northwestern Ohio which carried the GOP by large margins in 2000. IOW, dividing the state west-to-east rather than north-south is more accurate in gauging the voting pattern. Northeastern Ohio and Appalachian Ohio (SE) were more likely to lean Dem.

4. It's a Strategic Vision poll, which is a Repug outfit.
ARG poll for Ohio has Kerry still in the lead:

5. In other words, a Phony Freeped Poll designed to fill in the backstory
so when they steal the election, they can point to their Phony Polls as "proof".

They have been using this stratagem since 2000 and probably before. The fact that it is so forcefully and fully used (THIS IS ONE OF MANY INSTANCES HERE) it indicates to me that the Busheviks will steal the election again.

8. I have an aunt who lives in Cleveland,
and I love her very much--but she is FRUSTRATING. She is not a Bush-bot---but she is swayed by the latest thing that she hears--so she goes back and forth in her opinions. (she truly is a "swing voter").

She voted for Gore last time, Clinton before that, Perot before that, and Bush 1---Reagan.

But--it is very hard to know what she will do. All I can do is keep after her until the election.

His commentary about the grip Repukes have on Kansas apply to Ohio as well. It's a great read.

14. I live in Columbus on the Grandview/Upper Arlington border
and Upper Arlington might be the wealthiest area in the state and I am completely blown away by the anti-Bush stuff and pro Kerry stuff I see. I'd say Kerry signs and anti-Bush signs outnumber Bush/Cheney signs 10/1, at the very least. I'm seriously shocked at some of the shit I see in yards of houses that cost atleast 300K. You'd think they like their tax cuts.

Great news! And your neighbors sound patriotic. Maybe they also remember what Oliver Wendell Holmes said:

"Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society."

19. My sister lives a little north of there, deep in rural Ohio
and she tells me that there is growing anger toward Bush. She says that a lot of people who never bothered to vote before are registering and planning to vote against Bush. One reason - they saw F9/11 and they are really mad about Bush's connection with Saudi Arabia.

Unfortunately, she said that there is also incredible bigotry toward anyone perceived to be middle eastern, arab, or muslim. No distinctions are made about a person's religion, country of origin, citizenship, etc. Anyone who looks middle eastern is hated there, she says.

That's very sad, and also worrisome for the future.

16. Was That Of Likely Voters? How About Last Week's Purge?
According to Thom Hartmann there was a purge of voters in a county that I think is to the west of Cincinnatti that removed 110,000 voters. The area is 20-something percent black, who were expected to vote 90% Democratic. So they come off the possible voter list and Bush's numbers go up even if not a single soul left in the survey changed their mind.

How's that for an answer?

Their gripe is the restrictions on guns and off-road vehicles promoted by Dems. How many here support guns and off-roaders? Very few I suspect.

21. Ohio Is Okay
The job problem here--and Taft's unpopularity--will help John Kerry. All they need to do is link Taft with Bush (or vice versa) and send John Edwards through Southeast Ohio. A "small town" tour through southern Ohio would be great--we're from there--because when you take time to visit the suffering areas that are never visited, the people there will remember it. And they'll help you out.

besides, the Patriot Act-which was written and pushed through by the Repukes-will put real restrictions on gun ownership.

Kerry and Bush Tied Among Likely Voters in Ohio

John Kerry and George W. Bush are tied among likely voters in Ohio according to a survey by the American Research Group. A total of 47% of likely voters say they would vote for Kerry if the presidential election were being held today and 45% say they would vote for Bush. A total of 3% of likely voters say they would vote for Ralph Nader and 5% of likely voters are undecided

28. I live in Marion County.
We've never gone Democratic in a presidential election EVER.

I don't think Kerry has much of a chance here, but I think Taft's unpopularity will be the dagger to Bush's heart.

I agree about the Edwards tour...that'd be an excellent idea.
