Apparently the GOP has grabbed the high ground again.
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 07:14 PM by SoCalDem
Just announced that they will have no "sleepy August".. they plan to meet and get to work on the security issues..
So while dems are back home campaigning, the goopers will be "working" hard to make us "safe".. and now if the dems do the same THEY will be denounced as reluctant 'me too's...:grr:

I sugggested the very thing this morning.:( Copycats.:(

3. If the dems were smart, they would stay behind in Washington

There are reporters all over the place with no one to interview..

They should have a big get-together and discuss the "terror issues" and the "safety issues".. If they "go on vacation" just be cause the repubes did, they are no better.. They have a chance to capture the highground here..

If something did happen later, they could always say.. "Well, at least WE stayed behind and TRIED to address these issues, but YOU could not be bothered..and then later IGNORED our efforts".. It's all about the "position"..we have GOT to take the high ground..and then stand it..

They should make a big to-do about how they are caucusing and trying to come to grips with the 911 report.. and they are crafting the necessary legislation...blah..blah.. THAT's the kind of stuff that would make the repube's eyes bleed..

7. The ones who are in danger of losing their elections will want to

go home and campaign, but there are a lot who are not that vulnerable.. They could even go back, and make a big announcement to their constituents.. That they wnat to be re-elected, but the country is in a state of emergency, and their country's safety is more important than rubber-chicken dinners and schmoozing for votes.. THAT would get them more votes than campaigning.

The thing that irritates most voters, is that they seem to DO very little.. This would be a pro-active step..

if they all did it in their own states/districts on the same day, they would make any effort by the repubes appear to be a "me too" if they decided to stay in DC also..

Think outside the box, people !!!

1. Here's how they'll do it...
come up with more goofy bills that pander to the religious right. Personally, I hope my con-man, Boozman, stays in Washington. It will give Democratic Challenger Jan Judy more chance to let folks in the Third Congressional District know how stupid and dangerous he is!

2. Too bad they didn't try that in August, 2001.
Your watch. Your fault.

3. Just the teensiest bit late, don't you think?
Oh, and what's George going to do without his vacation? August is his month to rusticate in Crawford, isn't it?

I adore how the Republicans are so sure we can't remember what they've done for four long years that left everything in such bad shape they have to work in August.

4. Yes, I know they are late, BUT their spin machine will ballyhoo
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 07:19 PM by SoCalDem
it 24/7 and THEY will end up looking serious, and the dems who go home to campaign will look like me too's if they stay and like slackers if they campaign.. We have allowed ourselves to be put in a box again..

Someone high up in the congress should have called a press conference YESTERDAY right after the report came out...and announced that the dems would be staying in town to get to work..

6. Sorry. I watched NewsHour, and Olbermann and there was HASTERT
saying no way Jose they were not going to stay and do it. It was after Snow and Lieberman said the Senate would stay that Hastert played his retreat. HE WAS ON TV SAYING NO WAY he was going to allow the house to stay and do its work.

7. Um, I just watched news where Hastert was going to recess, but was
bullied into changing his mind by Democrats!! I'm pretty sure it was Dems that put pressure on these Repukes to stay through recess - 'least that's the way it's being reported?

8. The name of the game is POLITICS
and the Democrats have been outplayed again. Too bad that it is the voters that suffer and they don't even know how they have been manipulated.

5. Good idea SoCalDem
Let 'em read the durn document. They will see they have blood on their hands and maybe become a little upset that the biggest bloodiest amongst them wants to continue tricking it down.

Let 'em read the 600 pages and see how their foolish chasing of Clinton opened the gates for the criminals who committed 9/11.

Let 'em read and weep for the lost opportunities they squandered worrying about gays and prays. Maybe, just maybe, they'll become more statesman like and less like carpet-bagging fools they appear to be.
