13. Actually There Are Tons Of Transplanted RW Nutjobs In LV
Don't confuse the tourists with the rednecks in LV suburbs like Henderson who relocated from Deep South USA...

I'm from L.A. but, my fam is from outside the truckstop town of Winnemucca NV...good Dems! Basques in particular don't care for RW-ers, Bush is exactly like Franco, sanctimonious BS, just Texas-style.

GO NEVADA!!

11. What is the deal with that anyway?
I know what the Yucca Mountain Project is, but I don't know the specifics of it. It seems that Nevada is very pissed off about it, and I'd like to know why.

14. Shrub carried NV's 4 electoral votes in 2000 largely on his
PROMISE to "follow the science" when it came to lighting up Yucca Mt with the nation's nuclear waste. Since he was installed, he's broken that promise at every turn and his R buddies In Congress have been shitting on NV like ducks chugging mineral oil.

In case you were wondering, *the science* says burying nuke waste at Yucca is a BAD idea. The mountain sits on a fucking earthquake fault, fer Chris' sake!

Even the R's in NV are abandoning shrub. While everyone is watching the big states like Ohio to turn against shrub and decide the election, it could come down to little ol' NV and its 4 lousy votes that give it to Kerry in 2004.

17. Ah, so that's the problem
Too many Nevada voters thought that a man who believes the Bible is a science book would actually "follow the science."

Seriously though, thanks for the feedback. The only thing I ever heard about it was from some Republican bitch in my Toastmasters group raving about what a wonderful thing it was. Naturally, given the source, I was skeptical. I think we should bury the waste under Bush's ranch in Crawford.

19. You should read up on the issue. bushco is depending on
the rest of the country embracing a NIMBY philosophy on Yucca - it ain't in my state, so I don't give a shit.

But it WILL be in your state. The truth is that even with all of the obvious caveats about the site itself, it will be a far safer place to have nuke waste than the tens of thousands of train- and truck-loads of nuke waste that will be crisscrossing the country, headed to Yucca. Yucca Mt will have to deal with the possibility of natural and man-made accidents for the next 10,000-plus years, but Yucca won't have to worry about terrorists attacking the site. Hell, a couple of RPGs aimed at a boxcar in the middle of Dubuque should do the trick!

NV and *the science* has argued that considering the terror threat, nuke waste is much safer stored where it is NOW, ie: on-site at each nuke facility in a semi-guarded holding area. Imagine all that waste flowing freely along our railways and highways, protected only by a thin sheet of metal and the hopes that some driver doesn't fall asleep at the wheel.

BTW - the government still hasn't come up with reinforced containment vessels for the waste that can stand even the impact of your typical train derailment. One assumes that anyone with intent and the means to clobber one of these shipments won't hesitate.

To paraphrase Condi: we shouldn't wait for the effects of a mushroom cloud to happen before we take this lame-brained scheme to task.

9. Kerry will win Nevada!
Gore almost won in 2000. I know I voted for him when I was living there. I think many Nevadans are disgusted with Bush, especially since they were so adamant about Yucca Mountain. That was a HUGE issue, and Bush totally blew it.

I found it really surprising how many conservatives there are in Nevada. Personally, I prefer Salt Lake. The conservatives kind of suck, but the liberals here are awesome!

10. Absolutely Wonderful News! ! !
It's going to be up to southern Nevada to save us. Conservative Carson City and surrounding counties will probably go to shrub, Although his support here in Carson is nearly invisible.:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I just read a report today that said registered Democrats in the state are catching up to republicans and are only trailing by 1%. WOO HOO

16. The WSJ recently said Kerry stood a chance in Nevada
Arizona and Colorado as well. The Wall Street Journal is a pretty conservative rag so when they print news like this I tend to take it seriously.

18. First Kerry lead I've seen
in this state (other than Zogby Interactive which I don't trust).

Amazing though. Nevada and Arizona are soft, as are MO and AR.

Meanwhile, PA is becoming an even stronger hold. OH and FL are the two big swing states, but there are so many states where Bush is weak that Kerry might be able to win without either of those two states.

21. Las Vegas and unions
Las Vegas is one of the last union strong holds in the country. Most of the casino workers are unionized. Last year we were out in Vegas and three cab drivers started political discussions with us and they were all against Bush. When checking into Bally's my cousin who's last name is Bush said to the clerk, "I'm related to George Bush," and got no response from the clerk. She's not related but she is delusional about it. My mom said to the clerk, "I'm not related to Bush," and the clerk said, "Good for you."
