RW Texans love Lance Armstrong! People who would know nothing
of cycling or the Tour de France if Lance had come in second 5 times in a row rather than winning.

Doesn't the guy go out with Sheryl Crow who is strongly opposed to shrubya's war?

I suppose it would be impolite to point this out to them, thereby disturbing their moment of self congratulatory jingoism.

1. I doubt that all Texans are wingers
But those that are will boycott him when they find out that Lance isn't.

3. I'm not saying that all Texans are. Most of the ones I know are. They

are all pumped up over Lance's performance, which is of course awe inspiring.

It's funny because Lance is from here where I live, Plano. It's a largely upper middle class Dallas suburb and major wingnut stronghold.

Lance did not grow up among the "in" crowd here as his family did not have money (single mom, secretary) and he played oddball endurance sports and not football. He basically runs the place down in his autobiography, describing it as a soulless den of yuppie golf shirt wearing conformity. I doubt if most of the folks here pumped up about their Texan hero have read his book or are aware of this description.

The autobiography, even though ghosted, is pretty good, I think.

4. Oh I'm not fussing at you by any means
It's more of an overall sore point about DU for me. I just wish we, collectively, would concentrate more on "converting" geographical areas to the good side (we'll probably never get a better opportunity than now) instead of trashing them as hopeless. It's our only hope of becoming the true majority party.

That said, I agree with everything you've written just now.

2. I hate when stupid right wingers talk like the tour is french only
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 12:24 AM by K-W
"Lance beating all those frenchies" and such like. It is the #1 event in the sport, it is a fully international event. Lance is beating people from all over the world, including other Americans.
