I just talked with someone who had no idea . .
. . that the Washington Times was part of the RW echo chamber.

And then asked me to prove it.

I did some googling but couldn't find anything definitive. Also did a search at FAIR but no luck.

Does anyone know of a website that deals with this kind of a media issue. Like, why they have no credibility. Some industry ratings for accuracy. That type of thing?

2. WOW--that is a good question-
I would like to know which papers have a RW slant (so that I can tell others to avoid them). I would love it if someone had a link to a good list.

What a great question!!!

Warner 'Deceived' on Rev. Moon Event

Aide Says Senator's Office Would Not Have Sanctioned Gathering at Dirksen Building
By Spencer S. Hsu
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, July 24, 2004; Page A08

Sen. John W. Warner (R-Va.) accepts "full responsibility" for arranging the use of a Senate office building for a March ceremony in which the Rev. Sun Myung Moon declared himself the Messiah, a spokesman for the senator says.

...

But Warner's office said Thursday that it had found two earlier letters requesting space for the same event. The Jan. 7 and Feb. 17 letters, both under the letterhead of the Washington Times Foundation, were signed by the foundation's government liaison, Gary L. Jarmin, who is also president of Christian Voice. Moon's organization owns the Washington Times.

...

If the fact that The Washington Times is owned by someone who considers himself to be the messaih does not convince the right wingers that The Washington Times is a joke, nothing will.

8. considering the RW worships a man who thinks God speaks through him...
... buying swill sold to them by a creep who considers himself the Messiah isn't too far-fetched.

7. here's a little
From the 1978 report, quoting Moon:

"This year we have to expand our UN campaign, work among all the Senators and Congressmen with our PR brothers and sisters, and we are going to establish a university. Another thing we are going to do is to start a newspaper plant."

“As Moon predicted, a daily newspaper was opened in the United States--in December 1976, News World began publication in New York.” (20)

News World, published in New York in the late seventies, was the predecessor to the Moon owned voice of the conservative movement, The Washington Times. (21) Although the paper claims independence from the moonies, editors have quit the paper saying that is not true. (22) The Moonies, knowing they needed a “name” to bring credibility to the paper, heavily recruited and were able to convince James Whelan, a man with tremendous integrity to be The Washington Times first editor/publisher. Whelan quit after one year calling it a “Moonie newspaper” and adding he had “blood on his hands” for helping to give the paper credibility. (23) Former member Steve Hassan says the paper promotes fascism. (24)

Moon’s group bought United Press International (UPI) in May of 2000. (25) Also, as he predicted, he now controls the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, an accredited college. (26)

UPI Merges With Washington Times in Moonie Takeover

May 25, 2000

Nearly bankrupt and with only a skeletal staff, once-venerated United Press International found a financial savior May 15 in News World Communications Inc., owner of the Washington Times, which purchased the wire service's assets for an undisclosed amount.

UPI was a formidable competitor to the Associated Press until the 1980s, when it had 1,500 reporters and 200 bureaus around the globe. Since 1992, it has been owned by six Saudi Arabian families and now has 157 employees in Washington, London, Latin America and Asia--and few clients.

The wire service's new owner is controlled by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church and the founder of the Washington Times. "UPI is saved from bankruptcy and can look to the future optimistically," said Arnaud de Borchgrave, former editor in chief of the Times, who became UPI's president and chief executive in December 1998.

14. Plus Moon, Falwell and LaHaye are buds
Not enough people know Tim "Left Behind" LaHaye is in bed with Moon.

"You'd think that Christian leaders like Jerry Falwell, Tim LaHaye (co-author of the "Left Behind" series), and Robert Schuller would point out a phony "Christ" to their followers and avoid him. Instead these men have appeared with Moon and worked with him to achieve common goals. Jerry Falwell accepted 3.5 million dollars from Moon to rescue his financially troubled Liberty University. LaHaye was chummy with Moon's right-hand man, Bo Hi Pak, in the 1980's, as LaHaye worked to elect political right-wingers in the United States.

Sun Myung Moon may quietly pass from the scene -- just another weird, fake Christ -- as he nears the end of his life. Or he may continue to work behind the scenes as a master manipulator, pulling the strings of political and religious power until he achieves some measure of world dominion and recognition by the deceived -- as God on earth. "

This site has an actual picture of Moon with his crown on. Scary.

13. And from Columbia Journalism Review
http://archives.cjr.org/year/95/2/times.asp
=======================================================================
The Times's editorial mission is so clearly political that the paper's recently launched national edition is being aggressively marketed toward a conservative audience. A promotional mailer contains endorsements from Gingrich, Phil Gramm, and Jack Kemp, and promises "a new and reliable source for the information you need -- unfiltered by liberal media bias." No major paper in America would dare to be so partisan. "Their stories are representative of a conservative viewpoint," says New York Times Washington editor Andrew Rosenthal. "You would have to be visually challenged not to see it."

...had an excellent series on the Moon cult in the 1980s. It's available on the Internet -- here's the URL for the page that details the Washington Times.

Incidentally, this article was written on the second day of the Times' publication.
