which convention would terrorists be most likely to strike, D, or R? |
|
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 09:07 AM by mopaul
just a hypothetical. isn't the republican administration the one getting the most hatred from terrorists? or am i mistaken? i suspect that the repub convention might have more to fear from a hypothetical terror attack.
but they sure have the security ramped up cause of good ol georgey

1. I think OBL wants Bush* to stay |

After all, shrub has given OBL everything he ever wanted, like Santa Claus on Christmas day.

Bush will destroy America if given another term. Really, he's doing the terrorists job for them.
However, since Bush gets such 'high marks' when it comes to 'protecting us from terrorism', it would behoove him not to sit back and allow another domestic attack. Are you reading this, Rove?

3. It true, Bin Laden couldn't have asked for a better puppet than GWB |
|
Still, NYC is just such a big juicy target for him. I just don't know for sure. Chaos is their friend and if their is another attack, Afghanistan will be vaporized anyway, so I'm not sure why either place would be better than the other. After the election, once again during the change of the guard would cause the most chaos as it did last time (I'm assuming Kerry wins, of course).

If terrorists try to attack Dem convention, and bush* prevents them from doing so, he can say "See, I protect everyone, even the people who belittle my policies". He could get points for that; in fact, I'm not sure he wouldn't try to stage this on purpose? On the other hand, if terrorists try to sabotage Repub convention, bush* can say "See, OBL wants Kerry for President--told you so". Whatever happens and whereever it happens, Rove and bush* will spin it to their credit.
Isn't everyone saying, though, that domestic terrorists are who's causing the chatter re the Dem convention? Does anyone know if MAnn Coulter has ever trained in Afghanistan? (just kidding I think)

5. Well, since the terrorists are conservatives, I would guess the Dems |
|
However, if they go for the sympathy bit they might attack themselves. They need every psychotic GOP soldier they can get though so I'm not certain it would be the best approach.

6. I think they are more likely to hit the Repug |

convention, so that the Repugs get the sympathy vote. It will make people rally around them, and it will make it appear that the terrorists are on the side of the Democrats. Strategically, a New York hit helps the Repugs more.
Also--if if just hits New York City (not necessarily the convention) it will look like an attack on the repugs--but it will mostly kill Democratic voters. A win win for the repugs.

7. But, like I said a couple of posts up |

Isn't the current threat supposed to be domestic in nature. A la Timothy McVeigh? If so, they probably slant far right. Just asking.

8. By "domestic" they do not mean |
|
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 11:05 AM by CaTeacher
"good Christian Americans"
Supposedly the "terrorists" have been trying to recruit either--US citizens (who are sympathizers with the terrorists), or African muslims, or European muslims. (In other words---we will be "attacked" by extremist muslims who do not have an "Arab" appearance.)
Domestic--because they will supposedly be either US citizens or legal residents.
That is the kind of rumor I have been hearing.

Respectfully disagree. I don't think they mean Islamic terrorists, like cells inside the USA. But I could be wrong--won't be the first time. Actually, I hope everybody's wrong and things at both conventions will go smoothly.

9. There are a lot of homegrown terrorists that are right-wingers |
|
If a terrorist attack happens I would venture it would be homegrown. I really don't think Foreign terrorist could give a shit. They hate the American government no matter who is in the White house. They hate our financial institutions and Companies like Halliburton. Those are where any foreign terrorists will attack IMHO. However right-wing terrorists have already shown how they operate like in the Anthrax mailings and the pipe bombings across the South.

14. it is only our conceit |
|
that foreign terrorists would consider either a target. I doubt they care much one way or the other and have other fish to fry. The whole media blitz/terrorist scare over the conventions is simply an exclamation point to Bush's zany but media friendly mantra the "terrists hate us for our freedom". On the other hand... homegrown crazies would likely target the DEMS.
