Why can Republicans get away with balatant hypocrisy?
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 01:21 PM by hope42mro
This story proves the Republican leadership thinks Americans are stupid.

Source: Washington Post/ July 11, 2004/ Charles Babington

The decade old ban on 19 semiautomatic assault weapons is set to expire this September. In his 2000 campaign Bush said he favored extending this ban. Yet he hasn't even asks Tom Delay to call a vote on the issue. "We stated our position before the White House had to ask us," Rep. Tom Delay explains. The White House, "knew not to (ask), because the votes are not there."

Well that would make sense, right? Except last week Senate Republicans brought the Federal Marriage Amendment to the floor as an "important" issue when they KNEW they didn't have enough votes for it's passage.

At the SAME news conference where he dismissed the weapons ban, Delay promised he is ready to vote on a similar FMA in the House come September, even though Republicans are not close to gathering the 290 votes or 2/3 majority a constitutional amendment requires!!

Why the pointless vote Tom? "We feel marriage is under attack," Delay said.

So let's review: Bush, Delay drop the ball on renewing weapons ban because "the votes are not there." Yet vote on FMA, when everyone knows it lacks the votes too, is important because "marriage is under attack."

I see, I see. Politics as usual: dismiss the populace as stupid.

GRRRR..

1. He's right. The issue was rejected zero to one. Delay had the only vote.
are you saying you have a problem with that? You'll have to pry his uber-vote from his cold dead hands.

It won't be long until bank robbers and street thugs happily get AK-47s and Uzis in their slimy hands again.

God bless the 2nd Amendment.

I may be ethically opposed to owning a gun, but Uzi's? No problem! I think we liberals need to start NULA--the National Uzi's for Liberals Association. The Conservatives can have their guns. I say, 'An Uzi for every liberal!' 'They shoot, we MOW.'
