Just got a Culberson letter - some far right stuff
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 04:08 PM by Zidane
It has his signature in the top right so he may have used his franking privledge to send it. In fact in the lower left it says "THIS MAILING WAS PREPARED, PUBLISHED, AND MAILED AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE."

The third paragraph of the letter starts with "I thank God every minute that our president is Geroge W. Bush."

This is the part that is really upsetting. EXACT quote of the 5th paragraph.

"I am one of only four Texans on the 64 member House Appropriations Committee, and my principal long term goal is to balance the federal budget and pay off the $7 trillion national debt. I know that taxpayers can be repaid with Iraqi oil revenues, and at an absolute minimum, America must be paid back in the same manner as other nations like France, Russia, and China. Overburdened American taxpayers deserve no less."

WITH IRAQI OIL REVENUES??? If this doesn't speak volumes about the true reason of going in to Iraq I don't know what does. Further - this means instead of letting the Iraqi people gain and rebuild themselves from their own natural resoruce we will be stealing it for ourselves. He speaks like it's the end of WW1 and Germany (Iraq) must repay us. What a f-ing moron.

He also says "My third priority is to abolish the income tax and the IRS and replace it with a national retail point of sale tax that is collected by the states."

(his first priority is protecting borders and the 2nd is a local matter involving the freeway)

He goes on to say "Under this "Freedom Tax," we would keep 100 percent of our salary, and only pay the sales tax when we buy something. The federal and state government would have no idea how much money we earn. It's none of their business anyway."

He then goes on to quote the Ben Franklin "What sort of government have you given us?" "A republic if you can keep it" quote and says "In 2004, the American Republic is very nearly gone, reduced to remnants." And then "The best definitition of a Republican is a restorer of the Republic."

There is about 3-4 more pages, including a propaganda picture that has two parents tucking the kids in to bed saying "OURS... to fight for FREEDOM FROM FEAR".

There is also a percentage graph showing how much he voted with about 10 or so organizations from the most liberal of them to the most conservative. Some of the most liberal are "Americas union movement" - 7% Amer. Fed. or State, County, & Municipal Employees - 13% (as if this is something to be proud of).

on edit: A paragraph also says "I strongly support our Cammander in Chief. His success in Iraq is best reflected in the seamless June 28th transition to Iraqi sovereignty, and Muammar Qaddafi's suddenly cooperative attitude. The adminstrations doctrine of preemption works. Only once did I disagree with the President on the Iraq War. I wanted to make the Iraqis pay us back for the October 2003 $18 billion reconstruction grant. I finally dropped my loan amendment in committee in deference to my Commander in Chief in a time of war." Such a patriot isn't he?

1. If this is actually a CAMPAIGN flyer
as opposed to the usual run of 'just keeping in touch' type things that members of Congress send out, he shhould not be using his franking privalege . . . probably printed by the House press too. This deserves a complaint for sure.

What district, and who is his opponent?

2. I don't know what you would call it
I suppose it's a "keeping in touch" type of thing as it tells of his activity in congress.
