I didn't like the mudslinging at Chelsea Clinton, and I don't like it for the Bush daughters, either. Until they run for political office or become public moral crusaders a la William Bennett, I see it as petty partisanship. After watching the Republicans smear people this way for so long, I think we Democrats ought to hold ourselves to a higher standard.

...as a graduate of an Elementary Education program myself, the above description sounds precisely like what 40-50% of my classmates aspired to be. If they didn't actually complete all these requirements/goals, it wasn't for lack of trying.

No, sad as it sounds, Jenna is a textbook example of an entry-year primary educator. Shallow, incurious, and ruled by avarice. Two years from now she'll likely get married to a frat boy and become a Stepford wife.

I have a friend from a very wealthy family (this friend does not "need" to work and can live quite well off investments made by daddy). This friend studied to get a teaching certificate and did the student teaching thing for one semester or so. It was the student teaching that got to this person. This person could not stand being told what to do and when to do it. This person also delighted in pointing out mistakes that the other, more experienced teachers, made. At one time my friend thought of taking the list of errors in teaching made by the other teachers to the principal. I advised against it because it would not reflect well on their assessment of this person's ability to work well with others.

Needless to say this person is not teaching full time now. The difference between my friend and Jenna (Tonic) is that my friend is not shallow (hardly) nor is my friend ruled by avarice. My friend really wanted to make a difference in the lives of children but having never had to truly compromise in life found it hard to have a boss.

can top that resume. Most of them managed to mature into the type of sober, respectable, boring citizens they rebelled against.

The problem with her character and why I'd prefer to keep her away from impressionable youngsters is her attitude to the rest of the world, indicated by her treatement of her Secret Service bodyguards as servants. It seems the world exists to serve her, and it's the attitude that prevails throughout her family, so I doubt it will easily be changed.

However, I think there's little fear. Oh, it may happen for a few months, but "caring for disadvantaged children" and "caring for AIDS patients" will probably translate into six figure salaried jobs at foundations whose major job is soliciting donations to pay for the six figure salaries and donation solititations.

That's the way the world works if you're born rich.

21. Let Jenna See How The Other Side Lives

I was a bit surprised when I heard the Anheiser Bush twins were planning on starting out on the east coast and Jenna working in NYC itself. This isn't going to work at the Stepford Insitute in Arlington. Hopefully, she will be like every other new teacher and will see the educational system from "guts side up".

Here's hoping Jenna sees how many of those "No children left behind" are sitting behind in that classroom with scattered families and lives that range from living in absolute terror to just plain desperate poverty. Hope she sees hungry children, junkies strung out beyond hope with lives destroyed by her corporate father's buddies outsourcing and destroying of the middle and lower classes.

This week I'm looking forward to hearing Ron Reagan. He and Patty are quality people and look at where they came from. I withhold judgement on the Bush twins as we really don't know who they are nor should we.

To those who say now that the twins are "campaigning"...they are fair game for a lot of the slams and shots similar to what Chelsea Clinton got from the wingnuts or even Pickles gets (and she truly deserves). I say we've never heard these girls specific views of things other than the controlled soundbites from a Rove machine in full spin. The fact they strove to stay out of the limelight and out of trouble must mean they aren't totally of the same cloth as their corrupted parents.

One day I expect one or both of them to open up to Rolling Stone or Mother Jones...and I'll bet we get an interesting view of that entire family...warts side up. Then we can really have some fun.

22. Jenna SHOULD NOT teach in Harlem!!!!

They need positive role models because many of them are from fragile homes.They don't need Jenna! Trust me, I have hired many a teacher in urban and suburban environments.

I am delighted that even those that may be artists, and may have done a few risky things in the past, DON'T want her teaching their children. Good for them that they recognize that this is only a publicity stunt.

If I looked at her resume and looked at the Enquirer and the photos of her sticking her tongue out, I would NOT hire her!


If she is so wonderful, let her begin her career at a super rich private school for the children of Republicans! We don't need high profile people practicing on our children. Inner city children get enough of the rejects, they need the stars!
