5. Why does everybody think Bush has been strong against the terrorists?

Osama Bin Laden is still out there and now we've encouraged the terrorists to attack in Iraq. The administration scares us on a weekly basis about a new yet unspecific threat of terrorist attack.

Michael Goldman, a Bush supporter from Maplewood, says the public gloating he hears around town makes his blood boil. "You hear these dumb people at ShopRite criticizing the president, and they're not even well informed," said Mr. Goldman, a retired textile salesman. "It's all emotions and little fact. What they don't realize is that only Bush can keep us safe."

See, this is the problem. Bush isn't keeping us safe, he's waging wars we don't have to fight while the terrorists that attacked us on 9/11 get stronger.

12. I don't know but there may be time to change that perception

Even Dowd's column today, she points out that the war created more terrorists. It's cropping up more and more. Maybe the public will absorb it.

Its interesting to me that many middle-aged and younger folks seem to be Bush
supporters while their older parents are not. I guess older people have better
bullshit detectors.

7. Well, the young audiences of talk shows

like "The Daily Show" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" seem to be overwhelmingly pissed at the President. Now I just hope that all of these angry people actually go out to the polls in November and do something about it!

8. I've heard people who were old enough to remember it

compare now to the Vietnam era, when some families were so torn apart over that war and the politics of the time they didn't speak to each other for a while---or had huge screamfests over dinner.

My mother's family was affected that way. Her father was a WWII vet who believed the government was right to go into Vietnam. She and her sister were war protestors. It made for interesting family dynamics until about 1972 or 73, when my grandfather decided it was all a big mistake and we should get out of there.

She told me things were VERY VERY tense and that it got to the point that they couldn't watch the nightly news for fear of World War III breaking out in their house on both sides. And it only exacerbated any issues that were ALREADY there in the family.

Sigh.

11. Bush can keep us safe (not)

The most important thing to do after 9/11 was get OBL. We start to close in on him, and what does Bush do? Move troops to Iraq. So OBL is still out there, Al Qaeda cells are spreading everywhere, and thousands of people (troops and civilians) are dead because Bush lied.

13. Keeping the TV on while family is visiting is just plain rude

I don't care what station it's tuned to, even though Fux News is the worst. How can you have a meaningful dialogue when drivel is droning in the background?

Jeez, Gayle MacFarland is a laura bush clone. And her husband is rapidly approaching Newt Gingrich clonism.
